Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • Shape how millions of travelers around the globe discover, plan, and book their next adventure by localizing KAYAK’s award-winning products and campaigns into your native language. As a Freelance Localization Specialist you will be the cultural bridge that turns global features into locally loved experiences.
- • Translate, review, and polish everything from UI microcopy to long-form travel guides, ensuring every word feels native, persuasive, and on-brand. You’ll work across landing pages, mobile app strings, newsletters, SEO articles, social posts, push notifications, and video scripts—adapting tone and terminology so a user in Tokyo, São Paulo, or Stockholm feels like KAYAK was built just for them.
- • Own linguistic quality end-to-end: run in-context LQA checks, validate functionality on staging environments, and flag UI bugs or truncation issues before they reach travelers. Your eagle eye keeps layouts clean and messages crystal clear on every screen size.
- • Guard and evolve our language assets. You’ll maintain glossaries, style guides, and translation memories, proposing new terms when travel trends shift (think “workcation” or “bleisure”) and ensuring consistency across all channels and product areas.
- • Collaborate with a distributed network of localization leads, product managers, designers, and marketers in a fully remote, async-first workflow. Expect quick Slack huddles, shared Figma frames, and collaborative CAT tools—your input directly influences feature roll-outs and campaign launches.
- • Inject creative flair into transcreation projects. When a pun or cultural reference doesn’t travel well, you’ll craft alternatives that keep the wit and drive conversions—turning “Cheap flights that don’t suck” into a headline that delights without offending local sensibilities.
- • Monitor post-launch performance: review A/B test results, bounce rates, and app-store feedback to iterate copy and boost engagement. Your data-driven tweaks can lift click-through rates by double digits.
- • Anticipate a flexible, project-based workload that starts light and scales with demand. Peak travel seasons, new market entries, and product launches can triple volume overnight—perfect for freelancers who love variety and rapid ramp-ups.
- • Contribute to onboarding new linguists for your language pair. Share tips, run QA spot-checks, and help maintain the high bar that keeps KAYAK the world’s most trusted travel search engine.
- • Champion inclusive language and accessibility standards, ensuring every traveler—regardless of ability, gender identity, or cultural background—feels welcome and understood.
🎯 Requirements
- • Native-level fluency in the target language and excellent written English
- • Demonstrated experience localizing websites or mobile apps (portfolio required)
- • Hands-on proficiency with Translation Management Systems (e.g., Phrase, Smartling, Lokalise)
- • Working knowledge of SEO best practices and keyword adaptation
- • Comfortable running linguistic QA and functional checks across devices
- • Quick learner who thrives in a fast-moving, tech-driven environment
🏖️ Benefits
- • Fully remote, set-your-own-schedule freedom—work from anywhere with Wi-Fi
- • Competitive per-word and hourly rates with prompt 30-day payment terms
- • Early access to new KAYAK features and travel perks, including discounted stays and flights
