- • Join the Sierra Club's San Francisco Bay Chapter as a Fundraising (Development) Intern and gain invaluable hands-on experience in the non-profit sector. This remote, 10-hour per week, 6-month internship offers a unique opportunity to contribute to a vital environmental organization while developing practical fundraising skills.
- • The Sierra Club is at the forefront of the fight for a healthy climate, championing environmental, racial, economic, and gender justice. We envision a future where all individuals thrive on a healthy planet, fostering a deep connection with nature. In an era marked by the escalating climate crisis and persistent systemic racism, we are dedicated to advancing a bold, transformative agenda that acknowledges the profound interconnectedness of our planet, our communities, and our collective future. We firmly believe that our destinies are intertwined, recognizing that the intersections of ecology, race, gender, and governance are critical to either advancing our shared humanity or perpetuating oppression.
- • As a unionized employer with nearly 800 staff nationwide and a robust network of 64 local chapters powered by thousands of dedicated volunteers, the Sierra Club embodies the strength of collective action. This internship is an integral part of our Development Department, providing essential support to a small, grassroots non-profit.
- • In this role, you will gain practical, real-world experience in non-profit fundraising, working closely with the Development Director. Your responsibilities will include supporting various fundraising initiatives, from donor communications to event logistics and data management.
- • You will have the opportunity to learn and utilize Salesforce, a leading constituent relationship management (CRM) system, which is a highly sought-after skill in the non-profit and advocacy sectors. This will involve data entry, report generation, and understanding how to leverage CRM data for strategic fundraising efforts.
- • Key responsibilities will include assisting in the preparation of fundraising appeals, grant proposals, and donor acknowledgment letters. This involves meticulous attention to detail, clear and persuasive writing, and an understanding of donor stewardship.
- • You will also play a role in researching potential donors, foundations, and corporate sponsors, identifying opportunities for engagement and support.
- • Supporting the planning and execution of fundraising events, both virtual and in-person, will be another aspect of your role. This could involve coordinating logistics, managing RSVPs, and assisting with event promotion.
- • Maintaining accurate and up-to-date donor records in Salesforce is crucial. This includes entering new donor information, updating contact details, and tracking donations and communications.
- • You will assist in generating fundraising reports to track progress towards goals, analyze campaign effectiveness, and provide insights for future strategies.
- • Contributing to the development of compelling fundraising materials, such as brochures, social media content, and website updates, will allow you to hone your communication and marketing skills.
- • Participating in team meetings and contributing ideas for fundraising strategies and donor engagement will be encouraged, fostering a collaborative and innovative environment.
- • This internship is designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of the fundraising cycle, from prospect research and cultivation to solicitation and stewardship.
- • You will learn about different fundraising methodologies, including individual giving, major gifts, grants, and corporate partnerships.
- • The experience gained will equip you with a strong foundation in development work, preparing you for future roles in non-profit management, advocacy, or related fields.
- • By contributing to the Sierra Club's mission, you will be directly impacting critical environmental and social justice initiatives, making a tangible difference in the fight for a sustainable and equitable future.
- • This is an exceptional chance to work with passionate professionals, develop a valuable professional network, and build a resume that highlights significant contributions to a renowned environmental organization.
- • Embrace the opportunity to learn, grow, and make a meaningful impact in the heart of San Francisco's environmental advocacy landscape, even from a remote setting.
