- • Lead the entire engineering organization of approximately 25 people across all product engineering teams, including data engineering, to drive high output and quality without increasing headcount.
- • Define an AI-first engineering organization by establishing tooling, workflows, performance standards, measurement practices, and team structure that leverage AI to amplify team velocity.
- • Build a high-performance engineering culture focused on direct feedback, rapid improvement, strong code review norms, and data-driven decision-making, not superficial perks.
- • Partner closely with the CPO, product, design, and operations teams to influence product roadmap through technical insight, delivery credibility, and collaborative org design.
- • Make timely decisions on team composition and performance, helping engineers grow significantly through new tools and ways of working while maintaining trust and influence.
- • Operate in a fast-growing, AI-native market intelligence platform for the single family rental industry, founded within Opendoor and backed by Khosla Ventures, where engineering credibility shapes product direction.
🎯 Requirements
- • Proven ability to increase team output and quality without relying on headcount growth, with experience making lean teams punch above their weight.
- • Technical depth in distributed systems, data pipelines, and AI tooling sufficient to guide architecture and earn the trust of senior engineers.
- • Experience as a genuine thought partner on product roadmaps, bringing technical depth, data, and strong opinions while trusting product to make final decisions.
- • Evidence of personally building or mandating AI tooling into production workflows that your team owned.
- • Background in leading engineering at a Series A or Series B startup with a focus on high-performance, lean teams and execution speed.
- • Clear point of view on redesigning team workflows in an AI-native environment, not just adopting tools but transforming how work is done.
