📋 Description

• As the first legal leader at 7AI, Inc., you will establish the legal function from the ground up, shaping how the company manages risk, supports growth, and scales responsibly in a high-growth SaaS/AI environment. This role is foundational — you’ll define what legal looks like at an early-stage tech company and build systems that enable speed without compromising compliance.
• You will partner directly with executive leadership to influence key business decisions, balancing legal prudence with strategic ambition, while ensuring the company can move quickly and confidently in competitive markets.
• Day to day, you will build scalable legal processes, templates, and workflows from scratch — determining what to handle in-house versus outsource, and managing external counsel effectively to support business objectives.
• You will own and evolve core commercial contracting processes for both customer and vendor agreements, creating standardized, lightweight tools that reduce friction across sales, partnerships, and procurement teams.
• You will advise on product-related legal matters, including data privacy, AI/ML considerations, and emerging regulatory frameworks, ensuring compliance while enabling innovation in fast-moving tech domains.
• You will support corporate governance, entity management, and employment-related legal matters, establishing proper foundations for scaling operations and future fundraising or M&A activity.
• You will continuously refine legal guidance and internal resources to make legal support accessible, actionable, and aligned with the company’s culture of speed and pragmatism.
• You will lay the groundwork for a future legal team by designing scalable structures, documenting knowledge, and identifying when and how to expand the function as the company grows.
• You will develop a clear point of view on what a modern, builder-minded legal function should look like in a tech startup — and have the autonomy to execute on that vision from day one.

🎯 Requirements

• 8+ years of legal experience, with a strong mix of law firm and in-house background preferred
• Proven experience working at or closely with startups, ideally in SaaS or technology sectors
• Demonstrated ability to operate effectively as a solo legal practitioner, especially during early-stage company growth
• Strong business judgment — knowing when to enforce rigor, when to pragmatically adapt, and when to simplify for speed
• A bias toward action and practical solutions over perfectionism, enabling rapid decision-making
• Skill in translating complex legal concepts into clear, actionable guidance for non-legal stakeholders
