đź“‹ Description

  • • As Head of Partnerships for the DACH region at Substack, you will lead the strategic expansion of the platform’s presence across Germany, Austria, and Switzerland by identifying, onboarding, and supporting the region’s most influential independent creators. This role is pivotal in advancing Substack’s mission to build a new global economic engine for culture by empowering writers, journalists, artists, and thinkers with direct subscription-based monetization, free from advertising dependencies. Your leadership will directly contribute to scaling a sustainable creator economy rooted in autonomy, creative ownership, and audience connection.
  • • You will develop and execute a comprehensive creator acquisition and retention strategy in partnership with Substack’s Head of Europe, focusing on onboarding high-impact talent across diverse mediums—including journalism, literature, podcasting, video, and niche intellectual communities. Day to day, you will own key performance metrics related to creator growth, engagement, and revenue, ensuring alignment with Substack’s global business objectives while tailoring approaches to local cultural nuances. You will cultivate deep relationships with creators, talent managers, studios, agencies, and media tastemakers to embed Substack within the DACH cultural ecosystem. Internally, you will act as the voice of regional creators, translating their feedback into actionable insights for Product, Data, Marketing, and Communications teams to improve platform features and support systems. Externally, you will represent Substack at industry events, in press engagements, and in high-profile forums, positioning the platform as the premier destination for independent creative work. Additionally, you will monitor emerging trends in the creator economy—such as new content formats, audience behaviors, and monetization models—to ensure Substack remains innovative and responsive in the region.
  • • You will join a mission-driven, globally distributed team at Substack that values intellectual curiosity, creative integrity, and long-term impact over short-term gains. The company fosters a culture of autonomy, transparency, and deep respect for creators as partners rather than users. Operating from Berlin with remote flexibility, you will collaborate closely with European leadership while maintaining the independence to shape region-specific initiatives. Substack’s flat organizational structure encourages ownership and cross-functional influence, allowing you to drive meaningful change without bureaucratic barriers.
  • • In this role, you will have the opportunity to shape the future of independent media in one of Europe’s most vibrant cultural markets. You will build a legacy by helping creators achieve financial sustainability and artistic freedom, directly contributing to a shift away from ad-driven media models. You will grow as a strategic leader in the creator economy, refining your ability to balance relationship-building with data-informed decision-making, and gain exposure to cutting-edge product development, global partnership dynamics, and the evolving landscape of digital expression. Success in this role means not only scaling Substack’s footprint in DACH but also demonstrating how independent platforms can thrive at the intersection of technology, culture, and commerce.

🎯 Requirements

  • • 7+ years of experience in leadership roles within creator partnerships, talent development, business development, or editorial, with a proven ability to scale initiatives in fast-paced, high-autonomy environments.
  • • Demonstrated success in building and maintaining relationships with top-tier creators, talent agencies, production companies, digital media leaders, and journalists across the DACH region.
  • • Deep empathy for creators and a nuanced understanding of the challenges and opportunities involved in building independent careers, including monetization, audience growth, and creative sustainability.
  • • Exceptional communication skills, with comfort and effectiveness in public speaking, media engagements, and representing the brand in high-visibility settings.
  • • Strategic mindset with the ability to develop and execute data-informed growth strategies aligned with company goals, while adapting to local market dynamics.
  • • Strong collaborative abilities, enabling effective cross-functional work with Product, Data, Marketing, and Communications teams to enhance the creator experience and drive feature adoption.

🏖️ Benefits

  • • Market-competitive salary with equity grants for all full-time employees, ensuring direct ownership in Substack’s long-term success.
  • • Comprehensive benefits package including health, wellness, and retirement support, designed to support employees’ holistic well-being across international locations.
  • • Remote-first work flexibility with the option to be based in Berlin, allowing for autonomy in work environment and schedule while staying connected to a global team.
  • • Opportunity to work on a mission-driven project that is redefining media economics by empowering creators with economic independence and creative control.
  • • Access to a vibrant, intellectually curious global team passionate about independent expression, fostering a culture of learning, innovation, and purpose-driven collaboration.
  • • Exposure to high-impact networking opportunities with leading figures in the creator, media, and technology industries across Europe and beyond.
