📋 Description
- • The Hotline Operator serves as the frontline point of contact for individuals contacting SafeSpot, a harm reduction service operated by the Grayken Center for Addiction at Boston Medical Center, providing critical support to people at risk of overdose.
- • Day-to-day responsibilities include managing incoming 24/7 hotline calls, engaging callers who use drugs using a harm reduction framework, offering compassionate listening, providing information and referrals to local treatment and support services, and maintaining a calm, nonjudgmental demeanor in potentially challenging situations.
- • SafeSpot operates as a confidential, 24/7 service dedicated to reducing overdose deaths and improving access to addiction treatment and support across Massachusetts, staffed by compassionate professionals committed to saving lives through prompt, empathetic intervention.
- • In this role, the operator will develop advanced active listening and crisis communication skills, gain deep insight into substance use and harm reduction practices, build cultural competency when working with diverse populations, and contribute directly to public health outcomes by supporting individuals in moments of vulnerability.
