- • Join HubSpot’s award-winning Industrial Placement Program as a Software Engineer Intern and spend 12 months immersed in real-world product development that powers the growth of more than 143,000 customers in over 120 countries. You’ll be embedded in a cross-functional squad that owns features end-to-end—from ideation and design to deployment and monitoring—giving you genuine ownership and measurable impact from day one.
- • You will write clean, performant code in Java, TypeScript, Python or Go, depending on the squad’s stack, and ship to production weekly using our continuous-deployment pipeline. Expect to open pull requests that are reviewed by senior engineers who treat you as a peer, not a “student.” Your commits will reach millions of users within hours, and you’ll see the telemetry dashboards light up as your feature drives adoption.
- • Collaborate directly with product managers, UX researchers, designers and customer success to translate customer pain points into elegant technical solutions. You’ll join discovery workshops, run A/B tests, and interpret experiment results to decide what to build next—learning how world-class SaaS companies balance innovation with data-driven decisions.
- • Contribute to HubSpot’s microservices architecture running on AWS. You’ll gain hands-on experience with containerised services (Docker & Kubernetes), event-driven messaging (Kafka), and globally distributed data stores (MySQL, DynamoDB, Elasticsearch). We’ll teach you how to design for resiliency, scale and security while keeping the codebase approachable for future interns.
- • Champion quality and reliability by writing unit, integration and end-to-end tests that run in our CI pipeline. You’ll pair with QA engineers to adopt property-based testing and contract testing, ensuring that every release meets HubSpot’s five-nines availability standard. When incidents occur, you’ll participate in blameless post-mortems and help craft the runbooks that prevent recurrence.
- • Level up your craft through weekly “Tech Talks,” lightning demos and dedicated mentorship. Each intern is matched with a staff-level mentor who meets you weekly for code reviews, career guidance and feedback on your personal development plan. You’ll also attend our global Engineering Summit and present a lightning talk on what you shipped—an experience that routinely becomes the highlight of university interviews.
- • Influence our culture of inclusivity and continuous learning. Whether you’re organising a Pride ERG event, leading a brown-bag on accessibility, or contributing to our open-source projects like the HubSpot CMS CLI, you’ll see how engineering and community intersect. By the end of the placement, you’ll have a portfolio of production code, published blog posts and conference slides that set you apart in any future role.
- • Work remotely from anywhere in the UK while staying deeply connected. We provide top-spec MacBooks, ultra-wide monitors, ergonomic stipends and high-speed internet reimbursement so your home setup matches our Cambridge HQ. Daily stand-ups, virtual coffee roulettes and quarterly in-person off-sites ensure you build relationships that last well beyond the 12-month placement.
🎯 Requirements
- • Currently pursuing a Computer Science, Software Engineering or related STEM degree with the right to work in the UK and available for a full 12-month industrial placement starting July 2025.
- • Demonstrated programming ability in at least one modern language (Java, TypeScript/JavaScript, Python, Go, C#) through coursework, personal projects, open-source contributions or previous internships.
- • Solid grasp of data structures, algorithms and object-oriented design; able to reason about time/space complexity and write clean, maintainable code.
- • Familiarity with version control (Git/GitHub) and collaborative development workflows such as pull requests, code reviews and continuous integration.
- • Nice-to-have: exposure to cloud platforms (AWS, GCP or Azure), containerisation (Docker), RESTful APIs or automated testing frameworks.
