📋 Description
- • The Inpatient Coding Specialist is responsible for reviewing and analyzing documentation present in the medical record for inpatient, outpatient and/or professional services to assign diagnoses/procedure codes as described by the physician(s) of record. This role ensures accurate coding in compliance with the Standards of Ethical Coding set forth by the American Health Information Management Association and official coding guidelines, directly supporting accurate billing, reimbursement, and healthcare data integrity.
- • Day to day, the specialist will review medical records, extract clinical information, assign appropriate ICD-10-CM diagnosis and procedure codes, as well as HCPCS/CPT codes for services rendered. They will utilize coding systems and encoders (such as 3M encoder and Epic system) to ensure precision, resolve documentation discrepancies through query processes when needed, and maintain compliance with regulatory standards. The role involves frequent repetitive motion with approximately 25% keyboard and 75% mouse use for data entry tasks.
