📋 Description
- • The Science Program Intern for the Lake Tanganyika Basin supports terrestrial and inland water-related activities in Tanzania, focusing on improving forest and terrestrial biodiversity conservation in the Malagarasi–Muyovosi system through science-informed land management and community engagement.
- • Day-to-day responsibilities include coordinating acoustic monitoring in Ntakata Forest, managing SMART patrol data, conducting participatory mapping for restoration zones, supporting regenerative agriculture planning with farmers and youth groups, and producing spatial products and monitoring guidance for adaptive land management.
- • The role is based remotely in Tanzania and involves collaboration with the Lake Tanganyika Basin Water Board, Tanzania Youth Environmental Network (TAYEN), BLISS, and local communities under the mentorship of the Lake Tanganyika MEL Specialist and Africa’s Lead Landscape Ecologist.
- • The intern will gain hands-on experience in biodiversity monitoring, GIS-based participatory mapping, regenerative agriculture design, community capacity building, and evidence-based conservation planning while contributing to landscape-scale restoration and improved livelihoods in the Malagarasi-Muyowosi landscape.
🎯 Requirements
- • Bachelor’s degree and at least 6 months of related experience
- • Must be currently enrolled in or attached to a recognized institution of higher learning
- • Willingness to travel and work in remote settings
- • Fluency in English and Kiswahili
- • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
- • Valid driver’s license and compliance with TNC’s Auto Safety Program
