  • • The Key Account Manager (KAM) serves as the primary liaison between Takeda Pharmaceutical Company Limited and treatment centers within the Ottawa Region territory, acting as an ambassador for Takeda’s brand, vision, and values to drive appropriate utilization and improved patient outcomes for its IBD products.
  • • This role is critical to Takeda’s commercial success, as the KAM leads account-centric engagement across key IBD centers and affiliated gastroenterology practices, collaborating with cross-functional teams to identify customer needs, develop strategic account plans, and execute tactics aligned with business objectives and customer priorities.
  • • The KAM operates within Takeda’s Canadian commercial organization, contributing to a mission-driven organization focused on delivering innovative therapies for gastrointestinal diseases, with a strong emphasis on science-based engagement, compliance, and patient-centric solutions.
  • • Day-to-day responsibilities include delivering product and therapeutic knowledge to prescribers and key stakeholders, maintaining up-to-date expertise on Takeda’s IBD therapies and competitive landscape, and providing compliant, evidence-based science and disease state information to healthcare professionals.
  • • The KAM develops and executes strategic and tactical account plans by uncovering customer needs, conducting stakeholder and influence mapping, identifying and prioritizing business goals, defining value propositions in collaboration with Head Office and field teams, and creating tactical plans to drive engagement and adoption.
  • • They conduct ongoing account management across all IBD centers and gastroenterologists in the territory, fostering confidence in Takeda’s holistic approach, ensuring consistent service and support, and adapting strategies based on evolving customer needs and market dynamics.
  • • The KAM delivers approved messages covering clinical, financial, outcomes, and operational aspects of Takeda’s products, strategically managing assigned accounts, budgets, and resources to maximize effectiveness and impact while adhering to compliance standards.
  • • They achieve sales goals and key performance metrics by executing business objectives, tracking and communicating KPIs as defined in account plans, and leveraging CRM systems to prioritize call objectives based on customer segmentation, strategies, milestones, and interaction history.
  • • The KAM develops and regularly evaluates account business plans to ensure alignment with strategic objectives and emerging trends, prepares and presents these plans to management as required, and continuously seeks new opportunities to drive results that meet the unique needs of key accounts, positioning Takeda as a trusted partner of choice.
  • • They manage the approved annual territory budget, developing detailed territory action plans that include budget requirements and monitoring expenditures to ensure financial accountability and optimal resource allocation.
  • • The KAM proactively engages in compliant collaboration with cross-functional teams (e.g., marketing, market access, medical) to ensure alignment in objectives and coordination of activities with accounts and external stakeholders.
  • • They identify and raise relevant issues through appropriate internal and external channels, propose solutions, conduct market surveillance, and communicate in-field intelligence on customer insights, competitor activities, and emerging trends to key internal stakeholders.
  • • All duties are performed in full compliance with applicable laws, industry codes (such as PAAB), company policies, and procedures, ensuring ethical and legal adherence in all interactions.
  • • The role requires bilingual proficiency in French and English to effectively engage with healthcare stakeholders across the Ottawa Region and broader Ontario territory.
  • • The KAM must demonstrate strong verbal, influencing, presentation, and written communication skills, along with a proven track record of success in key account management within the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry.
  • • They are expected to be highly motivated, self-directed, collaborative, and results-driven, with a growth mindset that embraces innovation, adaptability, and continuous learning in a dynamic market environment.
  • • Digital competencies are essential, including data-driven decision making, proficiency in digital collaboration tools (e.g., MS Teams), fluency in leveraging next-best-action platforms, AI, and MS Office suite, and a commitment to fostering digital curiosity and innovation within the team.
  • • The KAM must understand cybersecurity threats and best practices to protect sensitive customer and company information when using digital systems and communicating remotely.

🎯 Requirements

  • • Bachelor’s degree (BA/BSc/BCom) required; advanced degree (MBA, MSc, PharmD) considered an asset
  • • Minimum 5 years of sales experience calling on healthcare professionals in pharmaceutical, biotech, device, specialty, or healthcare industry
  • • Bilingual proficiency in French and English (spoken and written) is required
  • • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel overnight as required for field-based engagements
  • • Demonstrated experience managing and communicating complex reimbursement issues in a healthcare context
