- • Join Farfetch, a pioneering force in the global luxury fashion industry, as a Lead Platform Engineer for our Computing Platform in Porto. Farfetch is more than just a marketplace; it's a technological powerhouse dedicated to creating an unparalleled e-commerce experience for luxury consumers worldwide. We connect discerning customers in over 190 countries with an exquisite selection from more than 1,400 of the world's most esteemed brands, boutiques, and department stores. Our mission is to build end-to-end products and technology that not only meet but anticipate the needs of our customers and partners, driving innovation from concept to execution.
- • As a Lead Platform Engineer, you will be at the forefront of shaping the technological bedrock of our entire ecosystem. This is a pivotal role where you will lead a talented team of engineers focused on the continuous evolution and enhancement of our cloud-native infrastructure. Your leadership will be instrumental in cultivating an environment that fosters high performance, enabling your team to deliver a seamless, scalable, and exceptionally reliable platform. This platform is the engine that empowers all other engineering teams at Farfetch to develop and deploy software with unprecedented speed and superior quality.
- • Your responsibilities will encompass a dynamic blend of people leadership, strategic vision, and deep technical oversight. You will be a key driver in championing and accelerating the adoption of Self-Service capabilities and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) principles across the organization. By championing these modern approaches, you will significantly reduce the cognitive load on our developer community, allowing them to focus on innovation and feature development rather than infrastructure complexities. Simultaneously, you will maintain an uncompromisingly high standard for security, resilience, and operational excellence across the platform.
- • This role offers a unique opportunity to make a profound impact on Farfetch's technological future. You will guide your team in architecting, building, and maintaining the core services and infrastructure that underpin our global operations. This includes managing and optimizing our cloud environments (e.g., AWS, GCP), ensuring robust CI/CD pipelines, implementing advanced monitoring and alerting systems, and driving best practices in areas such as containerization (Kubernetes), serverless computing, and data management.
- • You will be responsible for setting the technical direction for the platform, making critical architectural decisions, and ensuring alignment with broader company technology strategies. This involves staying abreast of emerging technologies and trends in cloud computing and platform engineering, evaluating their potential benefits, and advocating for their adoption where appropriate. Your leadership will extend to fostering a culture of continuous learning, collaboration, and knowledge sharing within your team and across engineering.
- • Key to your success will be your ability to mentor and develop your team members, providing them with opportunities for growth and challenging them to achieve their full potential. You will facilitate effective communication, manage project timelines, and ensure the successful delivery of platform initiatives. This includes collaborating closely with product managers, other engineering leads, and stakeholders across the business to understand their needs and translate them into actionable platform improvements.
- • The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of distributed systems, microservices architecture, and the challenges associated with operating at scale in a complex e-commerce environment. You will have a proven track record of leading engineering teams, delivering complex technical projects, and driving significant improvements in system reliability, performance, and developer productivity. Your passion for building robust, scalable, and developer-friendly platforms will be a driving force in this role.
- • This is an exciting chance to be part of a fast-paced, innovative, and globally recognized company. You will contribute to a culture that values technical excellence, collaboration, and a relentless pursuit of customer satisfaction. If you are a visionary leader with a passion for platform engineering and a desire to shape the future of luxury e-commerce technology, we encourage you to apply.
🎯 Requirements

- • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence technical direction and build consensus.
- • Strong problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to identifying and mitigating risks.
🏖️ Benefits
- • Competitive salary and performance-based bonus.
