• • As a Lead Infrastructure Engineer at Commerce, you will be a pivotal member of the Infrastructure Engineering team, contributing to the design, development, and maintenance of the core technology stack that powers our open, AI-driven commerce ecosystem. This role is instrumental in building the tools and systems that enable our engineering teams to efficiently develop and deploy services across BigCommerce, Feedonomics, and Makeswift.
• • You will blend deep software engineering principles with a strong understanding of developer operations, embodying the DevOps philosophy of collaboration, efficiency, and continuous improvement. Your work will directly impact the stability, reliability, and scalability of our platform, ensuring seamless and personalized experiences for our customers.
• • A key aspect of your role will involve contributing to the planning and implementation of critical initiatives aimed at enhancing the stability and reliability of our database infrastructure. This includes proactive measures, performance tuning, and disaster recovery planning to safeguard our data assets.
• • You will apply software engineering and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) principles to create robust tools, services, and automation. This automation will streamline the building, monitoring, and operation of our complex infrastructure and service-oriented architectures, reducing manual effort and increasing system resilience.
• • Collaborate on platform-level initiatives that are designed to drive engineering automation and efficiency across the entire organization. Your contributions will help standardize practices, improve deployment pipelines, and foster a culture of innovation among engineering teams.
• • Continuously improve, evolve, and innovate the observability of Commerce’s platform architecture. This involves implementing and refining monitoring, logging, and alerting systems to provide deep insights into system performance, identify potential issues proactively, and ensure rapid incident response.
• • Take full ownership of issues and projects from inception to completion, demonstrating a high degree of autonomy and accountability. You will be empowered to make decisions, drive solutions, and ensure successful outcomes for complex technical challenges.
• • Participate actively in planning and technical design sessions, bringing your expertise to shape architectural decisions and contribute to the successful execution of strategic projects. Your input will be crucial in defining the future direction of our infrastructure.
• • Join the team’s on-call rotation, providing critical support and rapid response to ensure the continuous availability and performance of our production systems. This is a vital part of maintaining our commitment to operational excellence.
• • Work with a diverse technology stack, predominantly utilizing Golang, Ruby, and Scala for development, backed by Terraform and Puppet for provisioning and configuration management. You will have the opportunity to learn and work with new technologies as our platform evolves.
• • Foster a collaborative and communicative environment within a geographically distributed team, working effectively with colleagues in Austin, San Francisco, Sydney, and other remote locations. Your ability to communicate clearly and concisely will be essential for team success.
