📋 Description

  • Join Management Sciences for Health (MSH) as the Maine Prevention Network (MPN) Manager, a pivotal mid-level, full-time role based in Augusta, Maine, offering a hybrid work environment. This is an exceptional opportunity to contribute to a world where all individuals have access to high-quality, enduring solutions for improved health and well-being.
  • As part of MCD Global Health, MSH aspires to be a premier partner and a recognized leader, innovator, and trusted collaborator in the development, implementation, and evaluation of healthcare and public health programs. Our mission is to enhance global health and well-being through sustainable, high-quality, cost-effective, and universally accessible public health solutions, impacting communities both within the U.S. and internationally.
  • If you are a passionate public health leader driven by a desire to improve health outcomes in Maine, with a robust background in community-based public health initiatives, particularly in tobacco prevention, substance use prevention, and obesity prevention, this role is tailor-made for you.
  • In this capacity, you will be embedded within the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), taking direct responsibility for the comprehensive oversight, strategic coordination, innovative development, and effective management of the Maine Prevention Network (MPN).
  • The MPN is a vital collaborative effort, uniting the Maine CDC Tobacco and Substance Use Prevention and Control Program, Maine CDC Chronic Disease Programs (specifically focusing on Obesity Prevention), and crucial Public Health District-level community partners. This network is designed to foster a coordinated and impactful approach to public health.
  • Under the expert guidance of the Maine CDC, contracted community partners are empowered to implement evidence-based prevention programming. These programs target critical areas including Substance Use, Tobacco Use, Obesity, and Youth Engagement & Empowerment, ensuring a multi-faceted approach to community health.
  • This position demands a high level of subject matter expertise across all three core program areas: tobacco prevention, substance use prevention, and obesity prevention. You will serve as a key resource and thought leader in these domains.
  • You will directly oversee a Prevention Service Coordinator, fostering their professional growth and ensuring the effective execution of their responsibilities. Furthermore, you will collaborate closely with other dedicated staff within the Tobacco and Substance Use Prevention and Control Program and the Chronic Disease Program, creating a synergistic and supportive work environment.
  • A significant aspect of this role involves identifying, developing, and implementing robust systems, clear policies, and essential resources. These elements are critical for the Maine CDC to provide effective technical assistance and rigorous oversight, thereby ensuring the successful implementation of prevention programming by the MPN at the community level.
  • You will be instrumental in shaping the strategic direction of prevention efforts, ensuring alignment with state and national public health goals. This includes analyzing current trends, identifying emerging needs, and proactively developing strategies to address them.
  • Responsibilities will extend to fostering strong relationships with community partners, government agencies, and other stakeholders. Building and maintaining these partnerships is essential for the successful dissemination and implementation of prevention strategies.
  • You will play a key role in program monitoring and evaluation, ensuring that interventions are data-driven, effective, and achieving their intended outcomes. This involves developing and utilizing performance metrics to track progress and identify areas for improvement.
  • The role requires a proactive approach to problem-solving, addressing challenges that may arise in the implementation of prevention programs and providing innovative solutions.
  • You will contribute to the development of grant proposals and funding applications to secure resources for MPN initiatives, demonstrating a commitment to the long-term sustainability of prevention efforts.
  • This position offers a unique opportunity to make a tangible difference in the health and well-being of Maine communities by leading and coordinating critical public health prevention initiatives.
  • You will be a champion for evidence-based practices, ensuring that all programs implemented through the MPN are grounded in scientific research and best practices.
  • The Manager will also be responsible for staying abreast of the latest research, policy changes, and best practices in tobacco, substance use, and obesity prevention, bringing this knowledge to bear on program development and implementation.
  • Facilitating communication and knowledge sharing among network partners will be a core function, ensuring that lessons learned and successful strategies are disseminated effectively across the state.
  • You will contribute to the development and dissemination of educational materials and resources for both community partners and the general public, raising awareness and promoting healthy behaviors.
  • This role is ideal for an individual who thrives in a collaborative environment, possesses strong leadership skills, and is dedicated to advancing public health through strategic network management and program implementation.

🎯 Requirements

  • Master's degree in Public Health, Health Administration, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in public health program management, with a focus on community-based prevention initiatives.
  • Demonstrated expertise in at least two of the following areas: tobacco prevention and control, substance use prevention, and/or obesity prevention.
  • Proven experience in developing, implementing, and evaluating public health programs, including the use of evidence-based strategies.
  • Strong understanding of public health systems, policy development, and community engagement strategies.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
