📋 Description

• Lead and mentor a high-performing team of Go and Python engineers focused on Kubernetes observability, fostering an inclusive culture that promotes code ownership and professional growth.
• Drive technical strategy for Kubernetes integrations, ensuring alignment with OpenTelemetry (OTel) semantic conventions and industry best practices for observability.
• Deliver end-to-end value by overseeing the full lifecycle of Kubernetes observability solutions—from low-level instrumentation agents and Helm charts to backend services and frontend UI dashboards.
• Collaborate closely with Product Managers, Designers, and cross-functional engineering teams to align on product goals and maintain a consistent, high-quality release cadence.
• Champion operational excellence by implementing DevOps practices where the team is responsible for building, maintaining, and supporting its own software, including managing second-layer support rotations and incident response.
• Advocate for open-source contributions by encouraging and supporting the team’s participation in upstream Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF) and other open-source infrastructure projects to enhance New Relic’s engineering reputation.
• Support and maintain the Kubernetes agent across multiple versions of Kubernetes, OpenShift, Rancher, Windows, and Oracle Kubernetes Engine (OKE).
• Ensure robust handling of customer incidents by diving deep into technical root causes, mitigating production risks, and improving system reliability in complex, multi-cloud environments.
• Apply strong analytical skills to autonomously solve complex technical blockers and drive innovative solutions for high-cardinality data processing in distributed systems.
• Stay current with evolving Kubernetes architectures and containerized environments, including EKS, AKS, and GKE, to guide the team’s technical direction and product roadmap.

🎯 Requirements

• 8+ years of overall software engineering experience with a strong background in large-scale distributed systems and high-cardinality data processing
• 2+ years of direct experience managing and scaling engineering teams in a fast-paced, agile environment
• Deep understanding of Kubernetes architectures and experience scaling applications in multi-cloud containerized environments (EKS, AKS, GKE)
• Hands-on technical fluency with Go and/or Python, Linux systems, and API development
• Proven experience handling customer incidents, diagnosing production issues, and mitigating risks in live environments
• Strong analytical skills with an autonomous, creative approach to solving complex technical problems
