Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • Architect and deliver high-impact features for vCluster—the open-source technology that virtualizes Kubernetes and already powers 6 Global Fortune 500 companies—while influencing the roadmap of a product with 10k GitHub stars and multi-million-dollar revenue.
- • Own the complete lifecycle of every feature you touch: from the first customer conversation or GitHub issue, through design, implementation, rigorous testing, documentation, and release, ensuring enterprise-grade quality for both open-source users and paying customers.
- • Dive deep into Kubernetes internals—controllers, CRDs, extension API servers, admission webhooks, and custom schedulers—to solve complex distributed-systems challenges and push the boundaries of what cloud-native tooling can achieve.
- • Write clean, idiomatic, and performant Golang code that is easy to test, maintain, and extend; establish patterns and libraries that the rest of the engineering team can reuse, raising the bar for technical excellence across the company.
- • Engage daily with the global open-source community via GitHub, Slack, and community calls: triage issues, review pull requests, guide contributors, and distill real-world pain points into actionable product enhancements that ship in days, not months.
- • Collaborate closely with Platform Engineers at Fortune 500 enterprises and high-growth unicorns to understand their scale, security, and compliance requirements, then translate those insights into elegant abstractions that make vCluster the de-facto standard for Kubernetes virtualization.
- • Contribute to comprehensive documentation, user guides, and automated test suites that empower both external developers and internal teammates to adopt new features confidently and quickly.
- • Champion best practices in cloud-native architecture, DevOps automation, and secure-by-design development; mentor junior engineers and share knowledge through blog posts, conference talks, and internal tech talks.
- • Participate in on-call rotations with a blameless culture, using incidents as learning opportunities to harden the platform and improve observability for thousands of clusters worldwide.
- • Experiment boldly with emerging CNCF projects—service meshes, policy engines, supply-chain security tools—and prototype integrations that keep vCluster at the cutting edge of the ecosystem.
- • Shape the future of a remote-first, hyper-growth startup where your decisions today will define the product, culture, and technical direction for years to come.
🎯 Requirements
- • 4+ years of professional software engineering with demonstrable expertise in Golang and a strong grasp of concurrent, networked programming.
- • Hands-on, production-level experience with Kubernetes: you have debugged controllers, authored CRDs, tuned etcd, and understand the control-plane inside out.
- • Deep conceptual understanding of micro-services, container runtimes (Docker, containerd), and distributed-systems trade-offs around consistency, latency, and fault tolerance.
- • Passion for developer tooling and automation; you get excited about shaving minutes off CI pipelines or making CLI commands feel magical.
- • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; comfortable explaining complex technical topics to both community contributors and enterprise architects.
🏖️ Benefits
- • Competitive salary plus meaningful equity in a Khosla-backed startup growing revenue at break-neck speed.
- • Platinum-level health, dental, vision, and life insurance for you and eligible dependents, tailored by country.
- • Fully remote-first culture with flexible hours—work where and when you are most effective, whether that’s Toronto, Tokyo, or a cabin in the woods.
- • Fast, transparent hiring process: one short Zoom call and a decision within days, not months.
Skills & Technologies
About Loft Labs, Inc.
Loft Labs created vCluster, an open-source tool that spins up lightweight, virtual Kubernetes clusters inside existing namespaces. By running an isolated control plane within a single namespace, teams gain cluster-like isolation without the cost or overhead of full clusters, enabling safe multi-tenancy, faster CI/CD, and easier development workflows. The company provides enterprise support, a management platform, and add-ons to scale virtual clusters across clouds and on-premises infrastructure.
