  • • Lead observational research initiatives in pharmacovigilance epidemiology and causal inference to support Amgen’s obesity therapeutic pipeline, generating real-world evidence that informs regulatory submissions, reimbursement decisions, and clinical development strategies.
  • • Design and execute causal inference studies using target trial emulation and causal roadmap methodologies to assess disease burden, treatment patterns, safety, and effectiveness of obesity interventions across diverse real-world data sources.
  • • Collaborate cross-functionally with clinical, regulatory, HEOR, and commercial teams to identify strategic opportunities where observational research can complement or replace interventional studies, reducing development timelines and costs.
  • • Mentor and guide junior researchers in epidemiological methods, study design, and analytical techniques, fostering scientific excellence and innovation within the Center for Observational Research (CfOR).
  • • Author peer-reviewed publications, conference abstracts, and internal reports that advance Amgen’s scientific reputation and contribute to external knowledge in obesity epidemiology and pharmacovigilance.
  • • Stay current with evolving regulatory expectations for real-world evidence (RWE) from agencies like FDA and EMA, ensuring studies meet rigorous standards for validity, transparency, and reproducibility.
  • • Champion the use of secondary data sources including administrative claims, electronic medical records (EMR), and disease registries to enable efficient, scalable evidence generation.
  • • Drive continuous improvement in CfOR’s analytical capabilities by contributing to methodological advancements and best practices in observational research.
  • • Represent Amgen in scientific forums and external collaborations, positioning the company as a leader in causal inference and obesity epidemiology.
  • • Foster an inclusive, science-driven team culture aligned with Amgen’s values of innovation, collaboration, and patient-centricity.

🎯 Requirements

  • • Doctorate degree in Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Public Health, or related field with strong observational research focus, OR Master’s degree with 6+ years of relevant research experience, OR Bachelor’s degree with 8+ years of data sciences and scientific experience.
  • • Proven experience designing and executing observational research studies using causal inference frameworks such as target trial emulation, instrumental variables, or propensity score methods in pharmaceutical or public health settings.
  • • Demonstrated expertise working with secondary data sources including administrative claims (e.g., Medicare, Optum), electronic medical records (EMR), and disease registries to address research questions in obesity, pharmacovigilance, or therapeutic areas.
  • • Strong publication record as first or contributing author in peer-reviewed journals, with experience presenting findings at scientific conferences or internal stakeholder forums.
  • • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with ability to translate complex epidemiological concepts for non-technical audiences including clinicians, regulators, and business leaders.
  • • Experience working effectively in multi-disciplinary teams and influencing cross-functional stakeholders to adopt observational research solutions for strategic decision-making.
