Operations and Maintenance Safety Manager

📋 Description

• • Lead and conduct Job Hazard Assessments (JHAs) for rooftop, ground-mount, and carport solar PV and BESS sites prior to and during O&M activities, identifying hazards such as fall protection, electrical exposure, confined spaces, and chemical risks.
• • Develop, maintain, and archive standardized JHA templates and ensure all assessments are accessible to field teams for compliance and reference.
• • Conduct onsite compliance visits and audits to verify adherence to safety plans, permit conditions, and regulatory requirements across C&I, distributed generation, and utility-scale solar and battery storage operations.
• • Design, deliver, and coordinate routine safety training programs for field electricians, technicians, and remote operations center (ROC) teams across all four operating regions.
• • Develop specialized safety modules on LOTO procedures, arc flash awareness, fall protection, battery safety, thermal runaway response, PPE usage, and emergency response protocols.
• • Maintain accurate training records and certification tracking to ensure OSHA and company compliance across the O&M portfolio.
• • Formalize and update Emergency Response Plans (ERPs) tailored for solar PV and BESS facilities, including quick-reference materials for ROC operators and field personnel.
• • Structure and support routine fire drills and emergency response audits to evaluate team readiness and coordinate with local emergency services, AHJs, and site owners for jurisdictional alignment.
• • Author, refine, and maintain Safety SOPs and O&M Safety Manuals that are practical, field-ready, and aligned with Corporate Safety standards.
• • Ensure all safety documentation is version-controlled, regularly reviewed, and accessible to field personnel and management.
• • Track employee PPE inventory, inspection schedules, and expiration dates for critical equipment including insulated gloves, arc flash suits, fall protection harnesses, voltage-rated tools, and boots.
• • Support procurement of safety-critical PPE and equipment and establish enforceable inspection and testing protocols for all safety gear.
• • Manage safety workflows, documentation, inspections, and compliance tracking using the AssetPlanner CMMS platform daily.
• • Lead the rollout and ongoing support of lone worker monitoring applications, ensuring proper usage, monitoring, and escalation procedures are implemented.
• • Leverage technology platforms to streamline safety reporting, audit tracking, and KPI dashboards for real-time safety performance insights.
• • Track and report on safety KPIs including hours without incident, TRIR, LTCR, DART rate, incident reports, near-miss reports, and leading safety indicators.
• • Analyze safety data trends to identify root causes and develop targeted corrective action plans to reduce risk and improve outcomes.
• • Prepare and present regular safety performance reports to O&M leadership and Corporate Safety stakeholders to drive accountability and continuous improvement.
• • Promote a culture of safety excellence by influencing behavioral change and ensuring safety accountability at all organizational levels.
• • Collaborate with Corporate Safety to align regional O&M safety programs with corporate policies while tailoring them to site-specific hazards.
• • Maintain expert knowledge of OSHA 1910/1926, NFPA 70E, NFPA 855, NEC, and NESC standards as applied to solar PV and battery energy storage system (BESS) operations.
• • Understand BESS-specific hazards including thermal runaway, off-gassing, and arc flash risks unique to DC systems in energy storage environments.
