📋 Description

• As Payment Operations Manager at Astra, you will own the operational backbone of a mission-critical payment infrastructure that processes billions in annual transaction volume with 99.9%+ uptime, ensuring seamless settlement, dispute resolution, and partner coordination across multiple financial rails including Visa Direct, Mastercard Move, RTP, FedNow, ACH, and stablecoin systems—directly enabling Astra’s scalability and reliability at 10x current volume.
• You will design and execute end-to-end reconciliation processes across all payment rails, building automated pipelines with Engineering to reduce manual toil, establishing exception workflows with defined SLAs, and maintaining a source-of-truth ledger relied upon by Finance, Product, and Banking partners for accurate financial reporting and compliance.
• You will architect and operate the transaction health monitoring layer, building alerting systems that detect stuck transactions, return code anomalies, and settlement gaps before they impact clients, partnering with Engineering to implement observability, write runbooks, and develop self-healing automation while owning post-mortems and tracking KPIs like break rates and mean time to resolve.
• You will manage the full dispute lifecycle for card and ACH networks—from intake and evidence compilation to submission and outcome tracking—ensuring no deadlines are missed via a dispute calendar, coordinating with clients and Customer Success, and representing Astra in escalations with banking partners and card networks to surface upstream product issues.
• You will serve as the primary operational liaison for Astra’s banking partners and card networks (Visa, Mastercard, RTP/FedNow), coordinating on settlement, funding, NACHA compliance, and network reporting, while identifying and communicating partner-level risks such as rail degradation or outages to internal stakeholders.
• You will report directly to the CEO, working side-by-side with Engineering, Compliance, and Banking Partnerships to build scalable processes, tooling, and standards from the ground up—defining how Astra operates at scale as a builder, not a maintainer, in an early-to-mid-stage fintech environment.
• You will develop deep expertise in multi-rail payment systems, regulatory frameworks (NACHA, card network rules), and financial operations leadership, gaining visibility and influence across product, compliance, and engineering teams while shaping Astra’s operational resilience and scalability.

🎯 Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in payment operations, fintech operations, or financial partner operations at a payments infrastructure company, bank, or processor
• Deep fluency in multi-rail money movement including ACH, RTP/FedNow, card push (Visa Direct/Mastercard Move), and preferably stablecoin rails
• Hands-on reconciliation experience with ability to work directly with data, write queries, and build tooling—not just oversee processes
• Proven background in dispute and chargeback management, including working knowledge of Visa/Mastercard dispute rules and NACHA return code frameworks
• Technical fluency: comfort collaborating with engineers, interpreting API logs, and defining monitoring requirements without needing to code
• Operator’s mindset: proven ability to build processes from scratch in early-to-mid-stage companies, close loops, and own outcomes rather than maintain existing systems
• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Technology, or related field (or equivalent practical experience)
