đź“‹ Description

  • • At Column, we are revolutionizing the financial services landscape by building a bank and software company from the ground up. Our mission is to eliminate the complex and expensive banking supply chains that hinder innovation for companies building financial technology. We provide technology-forward banking solutions that streamline operations, offering a safer, more transparent, and cost-effective alternative to traditional banking infrastructure. As a new grad joining our Payment Operations team, you will play a pivotal role in scaling our payment operations function and delivering a best-in-class banking experience to our customers.
  • • This is a unique opportunity to be an early member of a dynamic and growing team, contributing directly to the development of robust internal processes and providing exceptional support for payment-related customer inquiries. You will gain hands-on experience with a wide array of payment methods, including ACH, wires, checks, international payments, Real Time Payments (RTP), and FedNow. Your responsibilities will involve investigating and resolving complex issues, collaborating closely with internal teams such as Engineering, Business, Compliance, and Risk, as well as external financial institutions, to ensure the timely and accurate resolution of all payment transactions.
  • • This role is highly impactful and cross-functional, offering you the chance to influence the foundational architecture of a modern operations function. Success will be measured by your ability to leverage technical skills to build scalable systems, continuously enhance efficiency and service quality, and develop deep expertise in Column's payment rails and infrastructure. You will report to the Head of Solutions Engineering, and this role is based in our San Francisco office, requiring 3 days per week in-person.
  • • Key responsibilities include designing and implementing systems to optimize, automate, and scale our operational workload. You will utilize technical skills in tools like Retool, SQL, Python, and Javascript to build efficient solutions. You will be responsible for operating and continuously improving Column's end-to-end payment operations processes, ensuring the smooth functioning of ACH, wire, RTP, FedNow, and check payments.
  • • You will manage the payment operations queue, diligently triaging, investigating, and resolving inquiries from both customers and external banks. Developing and maintaining key performance metrics and dashboards will be crucial for tracking the health and efficiency of our operations, providing valuable insights for continuous improvement. Your ability to partner effectively with Engineering, Business, Compliance, Risk, and Customer teams will be essential for ensuring consistent, accurate, and compliant issue resolution.
  • • Furthermore, you will contribute to building our institutional knowledge by documenting processes, creating playbooks, and maintaining internal knowledge bases to facilitate onboarding and future scalability. A significant aspect of this role involves contributing to ongoing risk management efforts by proactively identifying operational risks and proposing improvements to processes or tooling. This position demands a proactive, problem-solving mindset and a commitment to building and refining operational excellence from the ground up.
  • • As a new graduate, you will be immersed in a fast-paced environment where learning and adaptability are key. You will have the opportunity to work with cutting-edge technology and contribute to the growth of a company that is redefining the future of financial services. Your contributions will directly impact our ability to serve our clients and expand our market reach. This is an exciting chance to launch your career in FinTech operations, gaining invaluable experience in a supportive and innovative setting.

🎯 Requirements

  • • Bachelor's degree, preferably in Computer Science, Data Science, or a related technical field.
  • • Foundational technical skills in SQL, Javascript, and Python, with a demonstrated aptitude for rapid learning and application.
  • • Familiarity with NACHA operating rules, wire transfer standards, and general payment processing concepts.
  • • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage confidently with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • • Highly organized with a proven ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • • Exceptional customer empathy and a strong bias for action, driven by a passion for solving customer problems and improving processes.
  • • Eagerness to "roll up your sleeves" and contribute to building foundational systems and processes with minimal oversight.

  • • Generous family planning and fertility benefits through a partnership with Carrot, including up to $20,000 in reimbursement for qualified expenses.
  • • Monthly rent subsidy of up to $2,000 (post-tax) for employees living within 2 miles of the San Francisco office.
  • • Flexible Spending Account (FSA) and Health Savings Account (HSA) options for pre-tax savings on medical and dependent care expenses.

  • • 100% paid parental leave, including 16 weeks for birth mothers, 12 weeks for primary caregivers, and 8 weeks for secondary caregivers.
  • • Annual reimbursements of up to $4,500 for backup childcare services.
