Full Job Description

đź“‹ Description

  • • Own the end-to-end credit risk framework for Cloudbeds’ rapidly expanding Payments product line, protecting hundreds of millions in annual transaction volume across 150+ countries and multiple currencies.
  • • Design, implement, and continuously refine risk-scoring models that evaluate merchant creditworthiness in real time, balancing growth with loss-rate targets under 25 bps while enabling friction-free onboarding for legitimate hoteliers.
  • • Build and maintain automated decision engines that approve or escalate merchant applications within minutes, leveraging bureau data, bank statements, web signals, and proprietary Cloudbeds platform data to predict default probability and exposure at default.
  • • Monitor portfolio performance daily through dashboards you create in Looker, SQL, and Python, surfacing early-warning indicators such as chargeback velocity, refund spikes, and negative bank-account trends to senior leadership and the Payments leadership team.
  • • Partner with Product, Engineering, and Data Science to embed risk controls directly into the merchant onboarding funnel, ensuring that risk checks are invisible to good actors yet impenetrable to fraudsters and high-risk merchants.
  • • Lead quarterly credit-policy reviews with Finance, Legal, and Compliance, translating regulatory changes in PSD2, card-network rules, and regional KYC/AML requirements into actionable policy updates and system configuration changes.
  • • Own the reserve and settlement logic that determines when and how much of each payout is held, optimizing working-capital impact for hoteliers while maintaining adequate coverage for chargebacks and refunds.
  • • Investigate and resolve escalated cases of suspected fraud or credit default, working with external counsel, collection agencies, and card brands to recover funds and minimize losses.
  • • Present monthly risk reports to the executive team, translating complex metrics into clear narratives that influence capital allocation, pricing strategy, and go-to-market decisions.
  • • Mentor junior analysts and data scientists, establishing best practices for model governance, documentation, and back-testing that meet both internal standards and external auditor expectations.
  • • Collaborate with Customer Success and Support to craft empathetic, compliant communication when holds or terminations are necessary, preserving Cloudbeds’ reputation for partnership even in difficult situations.
  • • Drive expansion into new geographies by building localized risk models that account for regional banking behavior, currency volatility, and regulatory nuances—enabling safe launch in markets such as LATAM, APAC, and the Middle East.
  • • Champion a culture of experimentation by running A/B tests on risk thresholds, document requirements, and fraud signals, quantifying the revenue impact of every policy change and feeding learnings back into the product roadmap.
  • • Contribute to the strategic roadmap for Payments risk tooling, prioritizing investments in machine-learning infrastructure, third-party data sources, and real-time decisioning capabilities that keep Cloudbeds ahead of emerging threats.
  • • Represent Cloudbeds at industry conferences and with card-brand working groups, sharing insights on hospitality-specific risk patterns and influencing the next generation of network rules and fraud-prevention standards.
