As a critical member of our global finance and operations team, you will serve as the primary subject matter expert for all payroll-related activities in Japan, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency in every payroll cycle.   • • In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for the end-to-end execution of payroll for our employees in Japan. This includes meticulous planning, processing, and reconciliation of payroll, ensuring all statutory requirements, tax withholdings, and social insurance contributions are handled correctly and on time. You will be the go-to person for complex payroll inquiries, providing expert guidance and solutions to both internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • • A significant aspect of your responsibility will involve evaluating and selecting appropriate payroll software solutions that align with Deel's product technology requirements and our commitment to leveraging cutting-edge tools. You will play a key role in the implementation and ongoing management of these systems, ensuring they are optimized for efficiency and compliance within the Japanese regulatory landscape.
  • • You will meticulously prepare and reconcile internal payroll reports, maintaining a high level of accuracy and ensuring full compliance with Japanese tax authorities and labor laws. This involves a deep understanding of Japanese payroll regulations, including but not limited to, income tax, social security, and labor insurance.
  • • Owning all critical Japanese payroll and HR processes is paramount. This includes the accurate setup of involuntary deductions, managing the payroll aspects of employee onboarding and offboarding processes for employees of record in Japan, and ensuring all data is correctly captured and processed.
  • • You will be responsible for scheduling payroll expense collections and performing thorough reconciliations to ensure that all collected expenses accurately match the processed payroll expenditures. This requires a keen eye for detail and a robust understanding of financial reconciliation procedures.
  • • As Deel continues its rapid expansion, you will be tasked with assessing and improving existing payroll processes and procedures. Your insights will be crucial in ensuring that our rapid growth is supported by scalable, compliant, and efficient payroll operations. This includes identifying areas for automation and process enhancement.
  • • Staying abreast of all relevant Japanese regulatory and policy changes is a non-negotiable aspect of this role.   • • You will collaborate cross-functionally with various departments, including Legal, Finance, and HR, to provide expert insights and guidance on Japanese payroll and HR matters. This collaborative approach ensures that Deel's global operations are harmonized and compliant.
  • • A key part of your role will be to answer complex payroll and HR-related questions from employees and clients in Japan, acting as a trusted advisor and ensuring clarity and accuracy in all communications. 🎯 Requirements

  • • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • • 5+ years of payroll and HR experience with a significant focus on Japan payroll.
  • • Advanced knowledge of Japanese payroll software solutions and a strong understanding of Japanese regulations and policies related to payroll and HR.
  • • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks, manage deadlines accurately, and demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • • Strong verbal and written communication skills in both English and Japanese, with the ability to explain complex issues clearly and concisely to diverse stakeholders.
