đź“‹ Description
- • As Payroll Manager at PostHog Inc., you will be the critical owner of global payroll operations, ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant compensation for over 200 employees across 30+ countries, with direct impact on employee trust, legal compliance, and scalability as the company grows to 500+ people. This role sits at the heart of People & Ops, where precision and proactive problem-solving prevent payroll errors before they occur, enabling the company to focus on its mission of shipping essential products for software builders.
- • You will own the end-to-end payroll lifecycle for every full-time hire globally—from onboarding and first paycheck to offboarding and final settlement—managing bi-weekly and monthly pay cycles, resolving complex edge cases (such as retroactive pay, tax adjustments, and multi-jurisdictional deductions), and maintaining audit-ready records while partnering with finance, legal, and GTM teams to ensure seamless integration with broader HR and compensation systems.
- • You will manage and optimize relationships with 20+ Employer of Record (EOR) providers across diverse jurisdictions, monitoring regulatory changes in real time, ensuring compliance with local labor laws, tax filings, social contributions, and benefits administration, while negotiating contracts and SLAs to reduce risk and cost as PostHog scales internationally.
- • You will design, administer, and continuously improve competitive and compliant global benefits packages—including health, retirement, and wellness offerings—tailored to local norms and legal requirements in each country of operation, ensuring equity and clarity for employees while aligning with PostHog’s culture of transparency and autonomy.
- • You will collaborate closely with the GTM team to calculate and disburse quarterly commissions accurately, leveraging your experience with commission structures to refine PostHog’s models, ensure timely payouts, and provide clear explanations to sales teams about how performance translates to compensation.
- • You will serve as the trusted point of contact for all payroll-related inquiries from employees, proactively educating team members on complex topics such as Tender Offers, secondary sales, equity taxation, and international payroll nuances, translating technical details into clear, accessible guidance that builds confidence and reduces anxiety around compensation.
- • You will lead automation initiatives to streamline repetitive payroll tasks—such as data imports, validation checks, and reporting—aiming to build a scalable payroll function that supports 500+ employees without a proportional increase in manual effort, leveraging tools like BambooHR, Deel, Rippling, or Remote.com to increase efficiency and reduce error rates.
- • PostHog is a fully remote, globally distributed company operating across GMT-8 to GMT+2 timezones, built on radical transparency, autonomy, and a maker’s schedule—where meeting-free Tuesdays and Thursdays protect deep work, and everyone has access to the public company handbook, including compensation philosophy, strategy, and financials, empowering you to make informed decisions without bureaucratic delays.
- • You will join a mission-driven team that values shipping fast, embracing weirdness, and building products that truly matter—where your work in payroll isn’t just administrative, but foundational to enabling engineers, designers, and GTM talent to focus on innovation, knowing they are paid fairly, correctly, and on time, every single time.
🎯 Requirements
- • Proven experience managing end-to-end payroll for a remote-first or globally distributed company, preferably using platforms such as Deel, Rippling, or Remote.com, with hands-on experience in BambooHR for US payroll processing.
- • Demonstrated expertise in US payroll compliance (federal, state, and local) and payroll operations in at least one EU country (e.g., Germany, Spain, or the Netherlands), including knowledge of tax withholdings, social security contributions, statutory benefits, and local reporting requirements.
- • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a track record of being the trusted go-to person for payroll inquiries—able to explain complex compensation topics clearly and empathetically to employees at all levels, while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.
🏖️ Benefits
- • Fully remote work with flexible hours across GMT-8 to GMT+2 timezones, enabling you to work from anywhere while collaborating with a globally distributed team.
- • Access to PostHog’s transparent compensation calculator and public salary bands, ensuring fair and equitable pay aligned with market benchmarks and internal equity.
- • Generous time-off policy, including unlimited vacation, company-wide shutdowns, and meeting-free days (Tuesdays and Thursdays) to protect deep work and prevent burnout.
- • Opportunities to shape and scale global payroll infrastructure as PostHog grows from 200+ to 500+ employees, with direct influence on systems, vendors, and processes that impact hundreds of lives.
- • Access to PostHog’s professional development budget and learning resources, supporting certifications, courses, and conferences in payroll, HR tech, or global compliance.
- • Inclusive and accommodating culture—PostHog actively supports employees with disabilities and welcomes requests to adapt the interview process or workplace for accessibility needs.

The company maintains the core project under an MIT license and offers paid tiers for enterprise support, higher volumes, and advanced features such as correlation analysis, data pipelines, and team collaboration tools.
