đź“‹ Description

  • • As an Advanced Pharmacy Technician at Prisma Health's Home Infusion service in Greenville, SC, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the seamless delivery of pharmaceutical care to patients in their homes. This position operates under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist, contributing significantly to the pharmacy team's mission to provide exceptional pharmaceutical services.
  • • Your responsibilities will encompass a broad range of critical pharmacy functions, with a notable emphasis on hazardous compounding, which will constitute a significant portion of your scheduled hours. This specialized compounding requires meticulous attention to detail, adherence to strict safety protocols, and a deep understanding of sterile and non-sterile preparation techniques.
  • • You will be instrumental in interpreting and preparing medication orders, accurately filling prescriptions, preparing medication kits and trays, and managing automated dispensing cabinets and floor stock requisitions. The precise completion of cart fills and code tray refills is a key aspect of this role, ensuring that essential medications are readily available.
  • • Handling all controlled substances will be a core duty, requiring strict compliance with all federal and state regulations, as well as internal policies and procedures. Maintaining accurate records and ensuring the security of these medications is paramount.
  • • Proficiency in pharmacy-specific technologies will be essential. You will be expected to demonstrate advanced computer and automation skills, including troubleshooting issues with automated dispensing cabinets, inventory management systems, label printers, unit dose packing machines, and IV room automation. Accurate entry of patient charges and credits is also a vital part of this function.
  • • You will contribute to the financial health and operational efficiency of the pharmacy through diligent management of inventory systems, including both perpetual and manually maintained stock. This involves monitoring stock levels, identifying potential shortages, and ensuring optimal inventory turnover.
  • • In facilities with fewer than 350 registered acute care inpatient beds or fewer than 8 technicians (in retail settings), you may be called upon to provide shift or site technical leadership. This leadership role involves guiding and supporting other technicians, ensuring smooth operations, and acting as a point of contact for operational issues.
  • • Providing excellent customer service is a non-negotiable aspect of this role. This includes answering phones promptly, servicing the pharmacy window efficiently, maintaining a clean and organized work area, and consistently being prepared and punctual for each shift.
  • • You will actively participate in the training and mentorship of new pharmacy technicians and interns, sharing your knowledge and experience to foster their development and ensure the continued high standard of care within the department.
  • • Creating and managing patient profiles across multiple software systems, including dispensing software, patient management software, and prior authorization platforms, will be a regular task. This ensures accurate patient data is maintained for seamless medication management.
  • • A significant component of this role involves conducting benefits investigations for specialty prescriptions and assisting pharmacists with prior authorizations and appeals. This requires a thorough understanding of insurance processes and effective communication with payors.
  • • You will be responsible for clarifying medication orders with pharmacists and/or providers when necessary, ensuring the accuracy and appropriateness of all dispensed medications.
  • • Coordinating the initial fills and refills for all specialty medications, and educating patients and caregivers about specialty pharmacy services, will be crucial for patient adherence and successful treatment outcomes.
  • • Facilitating and scheduling the delivery of medications to patients, whether through home delivery or intercampus courier services, ensures timely access to necessary treatments.
  • • Documenting patient progress and interactions in various software platforms, including the Electronic Medical Record (EMR), patient management software, and dispensing software, is essential for comprehensive patient care records.
  • • Following up with office practices and/or patients to confirm receipt of medication and address any concerns is a key aspect of patient follow-up.
  • • Ordering and maintaining an adequate inventory of medications as needed, ensuring that necessary supplies are always available for patient care.
  • • You will be integral to the medication concierge program workflow, supporting Prisma Health discharges by assessing and addressing medication access barriers prior to a patient's release from the hospital, such as cost or prior authorization issues.
  • • This role also involves refining discharge medication processes to identify and capitalize on opportunities for improved patient care and medication management.
  • • You will aid in the auditing and compliance of the 340B drug pricing program, with a specific focus on mixed-use settings, ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements.
  • • Acting as a liaison between 340B program leadership and site-level leadership, you will educate staff on best practices and guide sites toward compliant procedures.
  • • As requested, you may participate in site visits and discussions regarding the addition of new 340B sites to the system.
  • • You will provide support for system and automation functions that do not extend across the entire health system. This may include informatics support, automated dispensing cabinet support, billing/charging support, and other specialized roles approved by Pharmacy Director Cohort.
  • • Supporting the education and training of both pharmacists and pharmacy technicians within your area of expertise will be a valuable contribution.
  • • Maintaining excellent customer service skills is paramount, involving effective communication with a diverse range of stakeholders, including patients, caregivers, office staff, prescribers, pharmacists, technicians, industry support, and payors.
  • • Participating in quality assurance and performance improvement initiatives, as well as other projects, will help to develop and maintain best practices within the department.
  • • Adhering to all regulatory guidelines for pharmacy compounding of sterile and non-sterile preparations, including meticulous documentation, is a fundamental requirement.
  • • Contributing to and supporting various activities and tasks related to the broader pharmacy enterprise will be expected.
  • • Performing other duties as assigned will ensure the flexibility and comprehensive support of the pharmacy department.
