Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • Architect, build and operate the next-generation credit-card-as-a-service platform that powers PayPay Card’s mission to re-imagine consumer credit for 70 million PayPay users and beyond. You will own the full lifecycle of cloud infrastructure, from whiteboard sketches to production traffic at millions of transactions per day.
- • Design and maintain highly-available, low-latency micro-service ecosystems on AWS (EKS, Lambda, DynamoDB, RDS, SQS, SNS) while enforcing PCI-DSS, PII and financial-grade security controls. Every line of IaC you merge directly influences the trust of millions of cardholders and merchants.
- • Lead the migration of legacy monoliths into event-driven, domain-oriented services using Go, Kotlin and TypeScript. You will pair with product engineers to define service boundaries, contract schemas and SLIs that translate regulatory requirements into resilient software.
- • Champion GitOps and progressive delivery: build reusable Helm charts, ArgoCD pipelines, canary and blue-green strategies that cut mean-time-to-recover by 50 % and enable daily releases with zero downtime.
- • Instrument everything—OpenTelemetry traces, Prometheus metrics, Loki logs and custom dashboards—so anomalies are caught before customers feel them. You will define SLOs, error budgets and on-call rotations that balance velocity with rock-solid reliability.
- • Automate security and compliance as code: Terraform policies, OPA gatekeepers, image scanning and dynamic DAST that satisfy Japanese FSA audits and global PCI-DSS Level 1 without slowing the team down.
- • Optimize cloud spend through rightsizing, spot-instance orchestration and FinOps dashboards that save millions of yen annually while maintaining sub-100 ms p99 latency for payment authorizations.
- • Establish internal developer platforms: self-service namespaces, golden-path templates, ephemeral preview environments and CLI tools that let feature teams ship in minutes, not days.
- • Collaborate with risk, fraud and data science teams to stream real-time transaction events into Kafka, Flink and BigQuery, enabling ML models that detect fraudulent patterns within 50 ms.
- • Contribute to open-source (Argo, Crossplane, KEDA) and represent PayPay Card at meetups and conferences, shaping the external perception of our engineering culture.
- • Mentor junior engineers through architecture reviews, pair programming and guild sessions, growing a world-class platform team that is as diverse as the customers we serve.
- • Participate in disaster-recovery drills and game-day chaos exercises, ensuring we can survive region outages, database failovers and traffic spikes on double-11 shopping festivals.
- • Translate complex technical trade-offs into crisp narratives for executives, regulators and non-technical stakeholders, securing buy-in for bold infrastructure bets.
- • Stay ahead of the curve—evaluate new AWS services, CNCF projects and security advisories, running proof-of-concepts that keep our stack modern and our customers protected.
🎯 Requirements
- • 5+ years of hands-on experience building and running production-grade Kubernetes clusters on AWS or GCP, including multi-tenant security, network policies and cluster autoscaling.
- • Expert-level Terraform (or Pulumi) skills with a track record of managing infrastructure as code for PCI-DSS compliant workloads.
- • Proficiency in at least one systems language (Go, Rust, Java) and one scripting language (Python, Bash) used to build CLI tools and automation.
- • Deep understanding of observability stacks: Prometheus, Grafana, Alertmanager, Jaeger/Tempo and centralized logging architectures.
- • Nice-to-have: experience with financial services regulations (PCI-DSS, JFSA, PSD2) or prior contributions to CNCF projects.
🏖️ Benefits
- • Fully remote-first culture with flexible hours across JST ± 3; we ship code, not seat time.
- • Competitive compensation package including stock options in the PayPay ecosystem and annual performance bonus.
- • ¥1.5 million annual learning stipend for conferences, certifications and hardware; take the CKA, CKS or AWS Pro exams on us.
- • 20 days paid vacation plus Japanese national holidays, plus a 4-week sabbatical after 3 years.
