- • The Pre-Certification Coordinator II is a specialized role focused on managing complex pre-certifications for high-cost oncology and non-oncology medications to prevent financial losses and ensure timely access to care for patients in the Department of Medicine at Washington University in St. Louis.
- • Day-to-day responsibilities include analyzing therapy and treatment plans, drug protocols, and clinical documentation; completing authorization processes with payers and within the Epic EHR system; conducting re-checks of insurance eligibility and authorization details; collaborating with clinical staff and providers to resolve denials, add-ons, and peer-to-peer reviews; and assisting with appeals and reimbursement challenges.
- • The role operates within the Business Office of the Department of Medicine, supporting clinical teams by ensuring accurate and timely insurance authorizations, thereby reducing administrative burden on providers and improving patient access to necessary therapies.
- • This position offers the opportunity to develop deep expertise in healthcare reimbursement, insurance navigation, and Epic EHR workflows, while contributing to revenue integrity and patient care coordination in a high-impact, mission-driven academic medical center.
🎯 Requirements
- • High school diploma or equivalent
- • Minimum 3 years of experience in clinical office settings, medical billing, health information management (HIM), or pre-certification
- • Proficiency with Epic EHR system for documentation and authorization tracking
- • Strong understanding of insurance terminology, payer policies, and prior authorization processes
- • Excellent communication, organizational, and multitasking abilities in a fast-paced environment
- • Ability to collaborate effectively with clinical staff, providers, insurance companies, and third-party payers
