- • The Pre-Certification Coordinator II (Remote) - Neurology role at Washington University in St. Louis is critical to ensuring timely and accurate insurance authorizations for complex, high-cost neurology therapies and treatments, directly preventing financial losses and write-offs by securing payer approvals before service delivery.
- • Day-to-day responsibilities include completing pre-certifications for complex and high-dollar drugs by analyzing therapy and treatment plans, drug protocols, clinical documentation, and payer policies; performing re-checks of existing authorizations by verifying insurance eligibility and updating EPIC; collaborating with clinical staff and providers to resolve denials, add-ons, and peer-to-peer reviews; and assisting with appeals and reimbursement issues as needed.
- • The role is part of Washington University in St. Louis’s Department of Neurology, a leading academic medical center committed to excellence in patient care, research, and education, where administrative precision supports clinical innovation and access to cutting-edge treatments.
- • In this role, the individual will develop deep expertise in neurology-specific insurance processes, master Epic EHR for authorization workflows, strengthen communication and negotiation skills with payers and providers, and gain experience navigating complex managed care environments—positioning them for advancement in healthcare administration, medical billing, or health information management.
🎯 Requirements
- • High school diploma or equivalent, or combination of education and/or experience
- • Minimum 3 years of experience in clinical office, medical billing, health information management (HIM), or pre-certification
- • Proficiency with Epic EHR and insurance claim processing software
- • Strong knowledge of insurance terminology, managed care, HIPAA, and third-party payer processes
- • Excellent communication, detail-oriented, interpersonal, and prioritization skills; ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
- • Ability to interact effectively with all levels of management, internal and external customers, and patients/families
