  • • Join Planet’s rapidly expanding Hyperspectral Solutions team as the technical linchpin who turns complex orbital data into measurable customer value. You will sit at the intersection of cutting-edge space technology and real-world business problems, translating Planet’s unique 400-band hyperspectral imagery into actionable insights for agriculture, mining, defense, insurance, and carbon markets.
  • • Own the full technical sales cycle—from first discovery call through signed contract and successful onboarding—acting as the trusted advisor who can articulate spectral science in language that C-suite executives, agronomists, and data scientists all understand.
  • • Design and deliver jaw-dropping demos that showcase how Planet’s daily 30-meter hyperspectral cubes reveal crop stress two weeks before the naked eye, map mineral compositions without setting foot on site, or detect methane plumes invisible to multispectral sensors.
  • • Build custom ROI models that quantify the dollar impact of earlier disease detection, reduced fertilizer over-application, or avoided environmental penalties, turning “interesting data” into “must-have data” for Fortune 500 enterprises and government agencies alike.
  • • Architect end-to-end solution blueprints that stitch together satellite tasking, atmospheric correction, spectral indices, machine-learning models, and customer GIS workflows—then present those architectures in white-papers, conference keynotes, and board-room slide decks.
  • • Partner with Product and Engineering to translate field feedback into roadmap priorities, ensuring that new spectral bands, tasking APIs, and analytics features map directly to revenue-generating use cases you uncover in the field.
  • • Lead technical pilots that compress a 6-month evaluation into a 6-week sprint: define success criteria, ingest customer truth data, run comparative analyses, and deliver a final read-out that secures enterprise-wide roll-outs.
  • • Mentor junior Solutions Engineers and Sales Directors on spectral science, consultative selling, and cloud-native geospatial architectures, raising the technical bar across the entire go-to-market organization.
  • • Represent Planet at industry events such as AGU, ASPRS, and PrecisionAg, delivering thought-leadership talks that position the company as the definitive leader in commercial hyperspectral intelligence.
  • • Continuously scan the competitive landscape—understanding how Airbus, Satellogic, or emerging hyperspectral startups position their offerings—then craft crisp differentiation narratives that win head-to-head evaluations.
  • • Collaborate with Customer Success to ensure smooth hand-offs post-sale, including training customer analysts on spectral unmixing techniques, setting up automated data pipelines, and establishing quarterly business reviews that prove ongoing value.
  • • Leverage Planet’s cloud-native platform (built on Google Cloud, with APIs in Python, JavaScript, and STAC-compliant formats) to prototype customer-specific analytics that can be scaled to continental or global extents within hours, not months.
  • • Contribute to open-source tooling and Jupyter-based educational content that democratizes hyperspectral analytics, growing the overall market and reinforcing Planet’s reputation as a benevolent market leader.
  • • Travel up to 25 % for on-site customer workshops, field validation campaigns, and strategic planning sessions—often to visually stunning locations where satellites, drones, and ground sensors collect synchronized data.

🎯 Requirements

  • • 5+ years of customer-facing technical experience in remote sensing, GIS, or earth-observation data sales
  • • Deep fluency in hyperspectral or multispectral image processing—ENVI, SNAP, Google Earth Engine, or equivalent
  • • Proven track record translating complex scientific data into business outcomes valued at $1 M+ ARR
  • • Comfortable coding in Python or JavaScript for rapid prototyping and API demonstrations
  • • Bachelor’s or higher in Remote Sensing, Geospatial Sciences, Physics, or related field (Master’s preferred)
  • • Outstanding storytelling skills: able to craft compelling narratives for both technical and executive audiences
