đź“‹ Description

  • • As a Product Engineer at Zeneducate Limited, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of education staffing through engineering excellence and a strong product mindset.
  • • You will be part of a small, dynamic team of 25 Product Engineers, where every individual has the opportunity to make an outsized impact and contribute to defining what engineering excellence looks like in practice.
  • • The core mission of this role is to solve the critical real-world problem of connecting the right teachers with the right schools at the right time, thereby improving educational outcomes for children and supporting the sustainability of the education industry.
  • • You will contribute to a platform that currently supports internal operations teams in filling roles, educators in finding opportunities via a mobile app, and schools in securing both short-term and long-term educators.
  • • The role involves actively participating in the development and enhancement of the platform to support phenomenal growth, particularly in the US market, and reaching the next level of platform capabilities.
  • • You will be expected to embrace a culture that values real-world outcomes and shared learning over mere output, prioritizing product thinking over pure technology by starting with the problem, shipping quickly, and iterating based on user feedback.
  • • Team success and sustainability will be prioritized over individual heroics, fostering a collaborative environment where engineers support each other.
  • • Fundamental traits sought include curiosity, adaptability, and proactiveness, with a focus on solving problems, helping others, and leveraging technology as a means to achieve these goals.
  • • You will thrive if you care deeply about users, focus on real-world outcomes, pursue continuous learning, and strive to elevate the skills and performance of your colleagues.
  • • The role encourages engineers to be problem shapers rather than just ticket takers, working closely with Product Managers and Designers as partners to understand user needs and drive innovation.
  • • You will have the opportunity to propose and lead Missions that propel the business forward, contributing to strategic initiatives.
  • • A daily shipping culture is in place, with continuous investment in improving the process of getting features to users quickly and efficiently.
  • • The company utilizes a mission-based setup where teams form around outcomes, encouraging engineers to work across different parts of the business based on their strengths and interests, rather than being confined to a specific lane.
  • • You will be encouraged to "master your instrument, master the music, and then forget all that and just play," implying a deep understanding and application of skills to achieve impactful results.
  • • The role involves working with a tech stack that includes Ruby on Rails and React for the core platform, with opportunities for experimentation in areas like AI-powered knowledge bases, bug triaging, and matching systems using technologies like Amazon Personalise.
  • • Engineers are encouraged to take ownership of their career paths, with progression focused on impact and learning rather than rigid competency grids, allowing for flexibility in defining personal growth.
  • • Your manager will act as a partner, providing guidance and perspective to help you think through hard problems and grow, rather than dictating tasks or supervising every move.
  • • The company uses a "Levels" system instead of traditional titles (e.g., Associate, Senior, Staff) to denote growth, emphasizing continuous improvement within a role and the possibility of changing roles based on business needs and skill alignment.
  • • Level changes are directly tied to compensation adjustments, reflecting a philosophy of investing in demonstrated great work at the current level.
  • • You will be part of a distributed engineering team, requiring strong communication skills and proficiency in asynchronous work habits.
  • • While remote, there are opportunities to build context by working from offices and interacting with frontline teams, providing firsthand exposure to user problems.
  • • The culture emphasizes impact, measurable outcomes, and shared learning, celebrating work that moves the needle or teaches something meaningful.
  • • A balanced and sustainable work pace is valued, with long hours seen as an indicator of inefficiency rather than a badge of honor.
  • • The company embraces diversity and supports individuals who may be the first in certain aspects within the team.
  • • The hiring process is designed to be fast, aiming for an offer within a week of application, followed by a robust onboarding process to ensure new hires are set up for success and can ship to production within days.
  • • Regular check-ins during onboarding help align expectations and address any potential mismatches quickly and respectfully.
  • • The company practices direct and authentic communication, sharing both successes and challenges, and expects the same from its employees.
  • • Hiring focuses on mindset, critical thinking, and the ability to create leverage, rather than solely on specific tools or technologies previously used.
  • • The company is always open to hiring great people and is transparent about its ongoing need for engineers, with a current requirement for at least four more engineers.
  • • The interview process includes a recruiter chat, a paired technical session where the interviewer writes code, a product thinking discussion, and a final role chat with the CTO and Senior Engineering Manager.
  • • Feedback is available upon request after the process, framed from the company's perspective on confidence in the candidate's fit.
  • • The role offers the chance to make a tangible difference in the education sector, contributing to a growing company with a strong mission and a collaborative, forward-thinking engineering culture.
