- • Lead Coefficient Giving’s grantmaking strategy to address the projected 27% decline in global health aid by 2030, focusing on low- and middle-income countries facing reduced donor funding.
- • Shape and execute a multimillion-dollar portfolio of grants aimed at facilitating transitions to locally owned health systems, including support for national health data systems, workforce development, and supply chain resilience.
- • Identify and fund high-impact opportunities that reallocate scarce health resources to the most cost-effective interventions, prioritizing evidence-based outcomes and cost-effectiveness analysis.
- • Increase health budget absorption in low- and middle-income countries by supporting initiatives that improve government execution and utilization of existing health sector budgets, currently underspent by an average of 13%.
- • Advance domestic resource mobilization for health by building the investment case for increased national health spending and supporting policy advocacy efforts.
- • Maintain and deepen relationships with key technical assistance providers including CHAI, PATH, Tony Blair Institute, and Delivery Associates, as well as government officials and co-funders like the Gates Foundation and CIFF.
- • Manage an existing portfolio of in-country grants, including technical support units active in six countries, adapting strategies in response to evolving donor policies such as the America First Global Health Strategy.
- • Conduct deep country-level analysis of political economy and health systems dynamics, particularly in African nations, to inform grant decisions and strategic priorities.
- • Solicit, evaluate, and investigate novel approaches to global health aid transition, continuously updating strategy based on emerging evidence and changing global conditions.
- • Lead a hiring process for an additional team member as grantmaking scale expands, ensuring alignment with organizational mission and operational capacity.
- • Travel frequently (approximately 2–4 weeks per quarter) to focus countries, primarily in Africa, to build trust, gather on-the-ground intelligence, and strengthen partnerships with local stakeholders.
- • Communicate grant rationales with transparency and clarity, using evidence to justify funding decisions and ensure reasoning is accessible to donors, partners, and internal teams.
- • Operate with high autonomy in setting thematic and geographic priorities, balancing long-term systemic change with rapid-response capacity support.
- • Adopt a hits-based giving approach, accepting that not all grants will yield measurable success, while maintaining rigorous evaluation of impact and cost-effectiveness.
- • Collaborate with the Global Aid Policy and Global Growth Fund teams under the leadership of Sam Donald, aligning grantmaking with broader philanthropic objectives.
- • Contribute to Coefficient Giving’s mission of helping others as much as possible with available resources, ensuring all activities are grounded in evidence, impact, and ethical stewardship of funds.
🎯 Requirements
- • 8+ years of experience working in global health, with demonstrated expertise in both health systems grantmaking and technical assistance
- • Proven ability to build credibility and engage effectively with high-level government stakeholders, including Ministries of Finance and heads-of-state offices
- • Strong relational skills to collaborate with diverse stakeholders including policymakers, nonprofit leaders, co-funders, and technical providers
- • Willingness and ability to travel frequently (2–4 weeks per quarter) to focus countries, particularly in Africa
- • Strong analytical and quantitative skills to rigorously assess cost-effectiveness of health interventions and critically evaluate impact data
- • High tolerance for ambiguity and a hits-based giving mindset, comfortable with uncertain outcomes and non-linear impact pathways
