  • • At OpenAI, we are at the forefront of developing artificial general intelligence (AGI) with the ambitious mission to ensure that this transformative technology benefits all of humanity. This monumental undertaking requires attracting and retaining the world's most brilliant minds, and our Research Recruiting team is instrumental in achieving this goal. As an embedded partner within our cutting-edge research organization, you will work intimately with our esteemed researchers and technical staff, gaining a profound understanding of their evolving priorities, fostering deep trust, and strategically shaping the future talent landscape of OpenAI.
  • • This role transcends traditional recruiting. You will be a strategic architect of talent, owning and executing comprehensive, long-term talent strategies. Your primary focus will be to identify, engage, and recruit a diverse pool of leading and emerging AI researchers, research engineers, and technical scientists who are actively pushing the boundaries of machine learning and AI research globally. You will not just fill roles; you will be a key contributor to defining the very composition of our research teams.
  • • As a strategic partner to our research leadership, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the direction of our research endeavors. This involves collaborating closely to define hiring priorities, meticulously craft search strategies, influence the candidate evaluation process, and guide critical hiring decisions. Your impact will be directly felt in the quality and trajectory of our frontier-model research and our ability to fulfill our overarching mission.
  • • You will forge strong, collaborative relationships with research and technical staff. This partnership will enable you to deeply understand their current hiring needs, anticipate future talent requirements based on evolving technical roadmaps, and proactively shape search strategies to meet these demands. Your insights will be crucial in identifying and cultivating exceptional AI/ML research talent, often engaging with individuals and emerging labs before formal hiring needs are even established.
  • • Leveraging your deep market insights and keen understanding of candidate signals, you will provide strategic counsel on hiring decisions. This includes advising on appropriate leveling, competitive compensation strategies, and the overall talent acquisition approach for highly specialized and sought-after research positions. Your expertise will ensure we attract and secure the best possible talent in a highly competitive market.
  • • You will serve as a trusted advisor and advocate throughout the entire candidate journey, from initial engagement through the final stages of negotiation and closing. Your role will involve helping hiring managers calibrate their expectations, assess research excellence, evaluate long-term potential, and ensure a strong organizational fit for each candidate. This requires a nuanced understanding of both technical capabilities and cultural alignment.
  • • In close collaboration with your dedicated sourcing partner, you will orchestrate and execute complex, high-impact recruitment searches. These searches will often navigate ambiguous or rapidly evolving technical domains, requiring a strategic and adaptable approach to talent acquisition. Your ability to manage multiple complex searches simultaneously will be key to success.
  • • You will be instrumental in building and maintaining a robust pipeline of top-tier AI/ML talent. This involves actively engaging with global research communities, attending key academic conferences, and staying abreast of the latest advancements and emerging talent pools within the AI and ML landscape. Your proactive approach will ensure a continuous flow of exceptional candidates.
  • • This role demands a sophisticated understanding of the nuances of recruiting for highly specialized technical roles. You will need to effectively communicate complex technical requirements to potential candidates and translate their skills and aspirations into the context of OpenAI's research objectives. Your ability to articulate our mission and vision will be critical in attracting candidates who are passionate about our work.
  • • You will contribute to refining and optimizing our recruiting processes, ensuring efficiency, effectiveness, and an exceptional candidate experience. This includes providing feedback on interview loops, assessment methodologies, and overall candidate engagement strategies. Your insights will help us continuously improve our ability to attract and hire world-class talent.
  • • Ultimately, you will be a key driver in shaping the future of AI research at OpenAI by ensuring we have the exceptional talent needed to achieve our ambitious mission. This is an opportunity to make a profound impact on a technology that has the potential to reshape the world.
