Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • Own the end-to-end weekly release lifecycle for EngFlow’s remote execution platform, from branch cut to full production rollout across dozens of global clusters.
- • Manage phased deployments using Terraform and internal tooling across rc, preview, general, and cautious release tracks, balancing speed with customer-critical stability.
- • Deploy and maintain configuration changes across a global fleet of production clusters, resolving Terraform drift and ensuring all clusters remain within certificate and maintenance windows.
- • Serve as the on-call engineer for production operations each week, triaging issues from the Linear queue, investigating customer-reported cluster problems, and facilitating the weekly Production Ops meeting.
- • Maintain CI health across all EngFlow-managed repositories by identifying and resolving flaky tests, documenting systemic failures, and ensuring the master branch remains green.
- • Coordinate cross-functional responses during production incidents, deploying hotfixes and configuration changes within approved maintenance windows while managing ongoing release responsibilities.
- • Improve operational processes by refining runbooks, streamlining handover procedures, and reducing toil to make future rotations easier for the team.
- • Work directly with product engineers and Bazel contributors to ensure seamless integration of releases and operational feedback into the development cycle.
- • Monitor and respond to production issues using Linux and shell scripting for log analysis, debugging, and automation tasks.
- • Communicate clearly and asynchronously in written English to document incidents, handovers, and runbooks that are actionable and understood by global engineering teams.
- • Take ownership of operational outcomes, escalating when necessary while maintaining accountability for the reliability of EngFlow’s platform.
- • Contribute to the continuous improvement of build and test infrastructure by understanding build systems such as Bazel, Gradle, Maven, or CMake to diagnose failures and optimize release workflows.
- • Participate in a global, fully remote engineering team with structured on-call rotations and collaborative incident response practices.
- • Support the operational discipline that enables engineering teams at companies like BMW, Databricks, Snap, Canva, Lyft, and Asana to build, test, diagnose, and release code at scale.
🎯 Requirements
- • Release & deployment experience: Owned production deployments for a distributed or cloud-hosted service, with understanding of how to detect and prevent bad rollouts.
- • Infrastructure as code: Hands-on experience with Terraform in AWS, GCP, or other cloud providers, including reading plans, identifying drift, and making deployment decisions.
- • Build system familiarity: Ability to read and understand build configurations in Bazel, Gradle, Maven, or CMake; build failures should not be a black box.
- • CI/CD operations: Proven experience maintaining CI system health, investigating test failures, managing flaky tests, and distinguishing systemic issues from one-offs.
- • Linux & shell proficiency: Comfortable using shell scripting and Linux tools for log analysis, debugging, and automation in production environments.
- • Async communication: Strong written English skills to produce clear, actionable updates, handover summaries, and runbooks for global teams.
🏖️ Benefits
- • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision benefits.
- • 401k bonus.
- • Parental leave.
- • Generous vacation policy.
- • Fully remote team with optional in-person team gatherings multiple times per year at global destinations.
- • Team events including chocolate, whisky, and tea tastings, monthly games, and escape room activities.
