- • Join Sofar Ocean, a dynamic and forward-thinking company at the forefront of oceanographic data and services, as a Routing Specialist for our US-based remote team. This is a unique opportunity to blend your passion for the ocean with critical operational responsibilities, contributing directly to our mission of understanding and protecting our planet's most vital resource. You will be an integral part of the Wayfinder team, performing a variety of mission-critical tasks that support our advanced ship routing capabilities, ensure the seamless delivery of our data and service products, assist our ocean science team in integrating new data sources, and play a key role in enhancing our internal operational tooling. If you are a highly organized, detail-oriented individual with a knack for technology and a deep appreciation for the marine environment, this role is for you.
- • As a Routing Specialist, your day-to-day will involve a diverse range of responsibilities. A core function will be providing essential support for ship routing operations. This includes analyzing weather forecasts, oceanographic data, and vessel performance characteristics to optimize routes for safety, efficiency, and environmental impact. You will be instrumental in ensuring that our clients receive accurate and timely routing advice, directly contributing to the success of their maritime operations. This requires a keen eye for detail, the ability to synthesize complex information, and a commitment to delivering high-quality results under pressure.
- • Beyond direct routing support, you will be involved in critical operational tasks that underpin our data and service products. This means ensuring the integrity, accuracy, and timely delivery of the oceanographic data that Sofar Ocean is known for. You will help manage data pipelines, troubleshoot any anomalies, and work to maintain the high standards our clients expect. Your work will directly impact the reliability and value of our offerings, making you a vital link in our operational chain.
- • Collaboration with our esteemed ocean science team is another key aspect of this role. You will assist them in the crucial process of wrangling new data sources for analysis. This could involve data cleaning, formatting, and initial quality control, preparing diverse datasets for scientific investigation. Your ability to manage and organize data will be paramount, enabling our scientists to derive deeper insights into oceanographic phenomena. This aspect of the role offers a chance to contribute to cutting-edge ocean science research.
- • Furthermore, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the continuous improvement of our internal tooling. This involves identifying inefficiencies, suggesting enhancements, and potentially assisting in the development or implementation of new tools and workflows. If you have experience with no-code platforms like Retool or Notion, or even a basic understanding of coding, you will find ample opportunities to apply and expand your technical skills. Your input will directly shape the operational efficiency and effectiveness of the Wayfinder team and Sofar Ocean as a whole.
- • This role demands strong time management skills, a proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and the confidence to make informed decisions. You must be comfortable navigating complex information, prioritizing tasks effectively, and adapting to the fast-paced nature of a growing company. The ideal candidate is not only technically proficient but also possesses excellent communication skills, capable of interacting with a global clientele and internal teams across different time zones. A genuine passion for the ocean and a commitment to its preservation will be a significant asset, aligning your personal values with our company's core mission.
- • We are looking for individuals who are diligent, organized, and possess a strong aptitude for technology. Whether you're a spreadsheet virtuoso, familiar with modern no-code development tools, or have some programming experience, your technical comfort will be highly valued. Your ability to focus intently on details and maintain a high level of accuracy in your work is essential for success in this mission-critical role. This is more than just a job; it's a chance to make a tangible impact in a field that matters deeply to the future of our planet.
