📋 Description

• Design and build the core AI platform at Newfront, including the agent runtime with tool use, planning, memory, multi-agent orchestration, human-in-the-loop handoff, and developer SDKs for brokering, underwriting, and client service workflows.
• Own the design and implementation of RAG and document understanding pipelines for complex insurance artifacts such as submissions, policies, endorsements, loss runs, and SOVs, covering ingestion, chunking, indexing, retrieval, structured extraction, and grounding.
• Develop a connector framework enabling AI agents to securely integrate with brokers’ real-world systems including AMS, carrier portals, email, document stores, and internal services, with first-class authentication, rate-limiting, schema discovery, and auditability.
• Establish the evaluation and observability backbone for AI systems, including offline eval harnesses, regression suites, hallucination and grounding checks, online telemetry for quality, latency, and cost, and dashboards aligned with compliance and performance targets.
• Own model routing and the model gateway, selecting between hosted frontier models and on-premise/self-hosted models based on use case requirements for quality, latency, cost, and data residency.
• Stand up and operate on-premise model hosting environments where regulatory, contractual, or data-sensitivity constraints prohibit use of hosted APIs, including GPU capacity planning, inference serving, quantization, optimization, isolation, and lifecycle management.
• Ship end-to-end AI product features used daily by brokers, underwriters, and operations teams, from problem discovery with business partners through technical design, implementation, and intuitive user-facing interfaces for non-technical users.
• Mentor engineers on production AI systems, review technical designs, and help establish best practices for building reliable, scalable AI in financial services.
• Partner with security, privacy, and compliance teams to embed critical controls — including authentication, audit trails, PII handling, data retention, and model risk management — directly into the AI platform rather than leaving them to individual product teams.
• Collaborate closely with product engineering, brokering, operations leaders, and compliance partners to ensure AI platforms and products reflect real-world business workflows and regulatory requirements.
• Maintain strong programming discipline in TypeScript with Node.js or other TypeScript backend frameworks, applying fundamentals in API design, data modeling, testing, debugging, code review, and team collaboration.
• Apply modern development and deployment practices including containerization, CI/CD, infrastructure-as-code, and production observability to ensure robust, maintainable AI systems.
• Stay current with advancements in AI/ML and pragmatically apply them to solve real business problems in insurance, balancing innovation with reliability and compliance.
• Communicate complex technical concepts effectively to non-technical stakeholders and collaborate across engineering, product, and operational teams to drive alignment and execution.

🎯 Requirements

• BS, MS, or PhD in computer science or related field, or equivalent work experience
• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience building, shipping, and operating production services (not just notebooks or prototypes)
• Strong programming skills in TypeScript with production experience using Node.js or another TypeScript backend framework
• Solid fundamentals in API design, data modeling, testing, debugging production systems, code review, and team collaboration
• Track record of leading AI/ML projects end-to-end, including API design, production operations, and long-term maintenance
• Experience designing systems for reliability, cost, and scale in production
