📋 Description

• Build end-to-end AI-powered product features using React/TypeScript for the frontend and Node.js/Python for the backend, ensuring real-time streaming, graceful degradation, and human-in-the-loop interaction patterns.
• Translate AI capabilities such as RAG pipelines, agentic workflows, and structured reasoning into intuitive, user-friendly product experiences like streaming chat interfaces, intelligent summaries, and guided automation for compliance practitioners.
• Partner closely with AI Engineers to define API contracts and output schemas, ensuring seamless integration between backend AI models and customer-facing product interfaces.
• Advocate for the user’s perspective in technical decisions by identifying when AI model outputs break down in practice and iterating the product layer to improve reliability and trust.
• Design and implement user-facing feedback loops that capture signal on AI output quality and make that data actionable for the broader AI team to improve model performance.
• Instrument AI features with product-level observability metrics including latency, engagement, task completion, and drop-off rates, alongside end-to-end tests that validate full-stack behavior.
• Establish reusable engineering patterns such as streaming hooks, feedback components, and AI state management systems to accelerate the development of future AI features across the product.
• Mentor junior engineers on AI product development best practices, participate in design reviews with both technical depth and product instinct, and help elevate the team’s collective understanding of AI-driven UX.
• Work within a hybrid model in San Francisco, collaborating in-office Tuesday through Thursday for high-impact team alignment and innovation, with flexible remote work on Mondays and Fridays.
• Operate within a high-velocity, mission-driven culture focused on ownership, precision, and customer obsession, where ambiguity is common and rapid iteration is expected.
• Contribute to defining the standard for how AI features look, feel, and behave across Drata’s product, setting a benchmark for the entire product engineering organization.
• Make compliance more accessible and trustworthy by transforming complex AI intelligence into simple, reliable product interactions that practitioners actively use and depend on.
• Influence the AI product roadmap by being uniquely positioned at the intersection of customer experience and AI capability, identifying gaps and opportunities before others.
• Ensure all AI features are built with production-grade reliability, scalability, and user-centric design, balancing technical innovation with practical usability in enterprise compliance contexts.

🎯 Requirements

• 7+ years of software engineering experience with a proven track record of shipping full-stack features in production
• 2+ years of hands-on experience building AI-powered product features using LLM APIs (e.g., OpenAI, Anthropic)
• Strong proficiency in React and TypeScript for building responsive, interactive UIs that handle async, streaming, and real-time data
• Solid experience with Python and Node.js for backend development and integrating with LLM providers, orchestration frameworks, or AI services
• Practical understanding of prompt engineering, context management, RAG, quality/evals (e.g., Braintrust), and structured outputs in production environments
• Experience implementing streaming response patterns (SSE, WebSockets, chunked HTTP) and building UIs that handle partial or uncertain AI outputs
