📋 Description

• Build end-to-end AI-powered product features using React/TypeScript for the frontend and Node.js/Python for the backend, focusing on real-time streaming, human-in-the-loop interactions, and graceful degradation of AI outputs.
• Translate advanced AI capabilities—including RAG pipelines, agentic workflows, and structured reasoning—into intuitive, user-friendly product experiences such as streaming chat interfaces, intelligent summaries, and guided automation for compliance practitioners.
• Partner closely with AI Engineers to define API contracts and output schemas, ensuring seamless integration between backend AI models and frontend product surfaces.
• Advocate for the user experience by identifying where AI model outputs break down in practice and iteratively refining the product layer to improve reliability and trust.
• Design and implement user-facing feedback loops that capture qualitative and quantitative signals on AI output quality, making this data actionable for the broader AI team.
• Instrument AI features with product-level observability metrics including latency, engagement, task completion rates, and drop-off points, paired with end-to-end tests that validate full-stack behavior.
• Establish reusable engineering patterns such as streaming hooks, feedback components, and AI state management systems to accelerate the development of future AI features across the product.
• Mentor junior engineers on AI product development best practices, participating in design reviews with both technical depth and product intuition.
• Work within a hybrid model in San Francisco, collaborating in-office Tuesday through Thursday for high-impact team alignment, with flexible remote work on Mondays and Fridays.
• Operate within fast-paced, cross-functional product teams where requirements are often ambiguous, iteration is rapid, and ownership is expected from day one.
• Ensure all AI features adhere to Drata’s values of trust, integrity, customer-obsession, automation-first, and diversity, delivering compliance solutions that feel effortless to users.
• Contribute to setting the standard for how AI features look, feel, and behave across Drata’s product ecosystem, influencing the broader product engineering organization’s approach to AI.
• Drive impact by turning AI intelligence into trusted, usable product interactions that make compliance practitioners more capable and confident in their daily work.
• Accelerate AI feature velocity by creating reusable components and interfaces that reduce time-to-market for subsequent AI-driven enhancements.
• Influence product roadmap decisions through direct exposure to both customer experience pain points and AI capability limitations, identifying gaps and opportunities before others.

🎯 Requirements

• 5+ years of software engineering experience with a proven track record of shipping full-stack features in production
• 2+ years of hands-on experience building AI-powered product features using LLM APIs (e.g., OpenAI, Anthropic)
• Strong proficiency in React and TypeScript for building responsive, interactive UIs that handle streaming and real-time data
• Solid experience with Python and Node.js for backend development and integrating with LLM providers, orchestration frameworks, or AI services
• Practical understanding of prompt engineering, RAG, structured outputs, and AI quality evaluation frameworks (e.g., Braintrust)
• Experience implementing streaming response patterns (SSE, WebSockets, chunked HTTP) and building UIs for uncertain or partial AI outputs
