📋 Description

• • Own the end-to-end delivery of high-impact projects that sit at the heart of iwoca’s lending engine, from initial technical scoping through to production deployment and post-launch optimisation. You will be the go-to engineer for the Finance Technology domain, translating complex financial requirements into elegant, scalable back-end solutions that move millions of pounds every day.
• • Architect and build the next generation of our ledger, payment-processing and reconciliation systems, ensuring they can handle 10,000+ daily transactions with five-nines availability and sub-second latency. Your designs will directly determine how quickly a café owner can stock up for the weekend rush or how fast a manufacturer can pay suppliers when demand spikes.
• • Collaborate daily with Product Managers, Finance stakeholders and cross-functional squads to turn ambiguous business problems into crisp technical road-maps. You will run feasibility spikes, prototype new ideas and present findings to senior leadership, influencing product direction before a single line of production code is written.
• • Write clean, idiomatic Python (and occasionally Rust) that is rigorously tested, well-documented and ready for continuous deployment. Champion best practices in code reviews, pair-programming sessions and brown-bag lunches, raising the bar for quality across the entire engineering organisation.
• • Diagnose and resolve live incidents across distributed services, PostgreSQL clusters and cloud infrastructure, using structured post-mortems to turn every outage into a learning opportunity. Your calm, data-driven approach under pressure keeps money flowing to small businesses when they need it most.
• • Mentor junior engineers and share emerging technologies—whether that’s experimenting with infrastructure-as-code, evaluating event-driven ledgers or introducing property-based testing—to keep iwoca at the cutting edge of fintech innovation.
• • Contribute to quarterly OKRs that balance rapid feature delivery with long-term platform health, ensuring our systems remain compliant with evolving financial regulations while still shipping code multiple times per day.
• • Work in a truly flexible environment: join colleagues in our vibrant London office 1–3 days per week or operate fully remote within the UK. Either way, you’ll stay connected through lightweight agile rituals, Slack huddles and twice-yearly company retreats in European destinations like Tuscany or the Algarve.
