📋 Description

• Design and build robust, high-throughput backend services supporting real-time risk scoring, screening, and continuous monitoring workflows for blockchain risk detection.
• Collaborate closely with data engineering teams to deliver personalized, customer-specific insights into blockchain activity, enabling tailored compliance views.
• Contribute to world-class sanctions reporting infrastructure that compliance teams and regulators rely on for accurate, auditable outputs.
• Scale the platform to support Elliptic’s rapidly growing enterprise customer base by identifying and resolving performance and reliability bottlenecks.
• Take ownership of technically complex areas of the system, driving architecture and implementation decisions with clear trade-off reasoning.
• Review code and raise the technical quality of the team through mentorship, feedback, and best practice advocacy.
• Translate compliance and regulatory requirements into well-designed, maintainable backend systems in partnership with product, data, and engineering stakeholders.
• Deliver meaningful contributions to the Real-time Risk platform within the first six months, building confidence in the codebase and event-driven architecture.
• Demonstrate clear technical ownership of a system component, including active participation in design discussions and code reviews.
• Gain a comprehensive end-to-end understanding of sanctions screening and continuous monitoring workflows, and articulate key engineering challenges and opportunities.
• Build solutions in a domain where correctness is critical, and systems are depended on by customers operating in highly regulated financial environments.
• Apply a pragmatic approach to complexity, knowing when to simplify systems and when to invest in appropriate abstractions for long-term maintainability.
• Actively use AI tools to accelerate engineering workflows and demonstrate effective application in production contexts.
• Work within an event-driven, streaming, or queue-backed architecture using technologies such as Kinesis, Kafka, or SQS in a production environment.
• Reason about distributed systems trade-offs including consistency, availability, latency, and failure modes to ensure system resilience.
• Work with NoSQL databases and caching technologies, applying deep understanding of data access patterns and performance optimization.
• Contribute to a technically complex codebase with a focus on clean, well-tested, production-ready code written in TypeScript/Node.js.

🎯 Requirements

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience building and operating production backend systems.
• Strong TypeScript/Node.js experience with ability to write clean, well-tested, production-ready code.
• Proven experience working with complex event-driven, streaming, or queue-backed architectures (e.g., Kinesis, Kafka, SQS) in production.
• Solid understanding of distributed systems trade-offs: consistency, availability, latency, and failure modes.
• Experience working with NoSQL and caching technologies, with comfort reasoning about data access patterns and performance.
• AI fluency: active use of AI tools to accelerate engineering work, with demonstrable application in engineering contexts.
