📋 Description

• Partner with Platform and Product Engineering teams to assess and evolve Zipline’s engineering practices, including CI/CD pipelines, test coverage, and developer workflows, to identify high-leverage quality opportunities and co-develop a prioritized Quality Engineering roadmap.
• Strengthen CI/CD quality gates by implementing and expanding linting, SAST/SCA security scanning (Snyk, Semgrep), and test coverage checks across pipelines while ensuring builds remain fast and teams remain unblocked.
• Build and maintain engineering health dashboards that surface key metrics such as test coverage, failure rates, and deployment trends, paired with enhanced monitoring and alerting systems using Datadog and Sentry to catch issues before they impact customers.
• Explore and embed AI-powered tooling into engineering workflows, including intelligent test generation, AI-assisted code review, and LLM-powered anomaly detection, to make quality practices faster, smarter, and more scalable.
• Streamline local development environments by improving onboarding processes, automating toil, and accelerating environment setup to keep engineers productive and focused.
• Manage and optimize containerized infrastructure on Kubernetes and AWS using Terraform to improve reliability, reduce manual operational burden, and support scalable platform growth.
• Embed quality practices across engineering teams through influence and enablement, fostering a culture of ownership and continuous improvement without top-down mandates.
• Evolve the engineering platform toward structured tooling such as policy-as-code for architectural standards, API contract testing, and spec validation, paced by team readiness and tooling maturity.
• Participate in on-call rotations to support critical platform and infrastructure issues, ensuring high availability and rapid resolution of production incidents.
• Leverage Ruby on Rails (primary stack), Postgres, Redis, GitHub, CircleCI, Docker, and AWS to build and maintain internal tooling and automation that directly improves developer velocity and confidence.
• Apply DORA metrics and developer experience frameworks to measure and improve engineering performance, using data to guide prioritization and validate impact.
• Maintain a pragmatic build-vs-buy mindset, focusing on improving existing systems before building new ones, and ensuring tooling is adopted because it solves real problems—not because it’s mandated.
• Communicate effectively in a fully remote environment, earning buy-in through clarity, collaboration, and demonstrable value to engineering teams across the organization.
• Work with technologies including Claude Code, Slack, JIRA, and Google Drive to support seamless collaboration and tool integration across distributed teams.
• Contribute to a culture of continuous learning by leveraging unlimited access to Udemy Business and participating in quarterly paid volunteering days.
• Engage in annual company off-sites in global locations such as New York, Costa Rica, Whistler, Palm Springs, San Diego, and Mexico City to foster team connection and alignment.

🎯 Requirements

• 8+ years of engineering experience, with at least 5 years in DevEx, DevOps, or infrastructure with a strong developer productivity focus.
• Strong CI/CD pipeline experience (GitHub Actions, CircleCI, or equivalent) with a track record of building, maintaining, and improving pipelines for reliability and speed.
• Hands-on experience with AI-assisted developer tooling, including code review agents, test generation, or LLM-powered quality checks.
• Hands-on experience with Kubernetes, Docker, and AWS; comfortable managing containerized environments and cloud infrastructure via Terraform.
• Familiarity with SAST/SCA security scanning tools (Snyk, Semgrep, or equivalent) and integrating them into CI/CD pipelines.
• Strong understanding of observability tools (Datadog, Sentry, or equivalent), including setting up meaningful alerting and reducing noise.
