📋 Description

• Partner with Platform and Product Engineering teams to assess and evolve Zipline’s engineering practices, including CI/CD pipelines, test coverage, and developer workflows, to identify high-leverage quality opportunities and co-develop a prioritized Quality Engineering roadmap.
• Strengthen CI/CD quality gates by implementing and expanding linting, SAST/SCA security scanning (Snyk, Semgrep), and test coverage checks across pipelines while ensuring builds remain fast and teams stay unblocked.
• Build and maintain engineering health dashboards that surface key metrics such as test coverage, failure rates, and deployment trends, paired with enhanced monitoring and alerting systems using Datadog and Sentry to catch issues before they impact customers.
• Explore and embed AI-powered tooling into engineering workflows, including intelligent test generation, AI-assisted code review, and LLM-powered anomaly detection, to make quality practices faster, smarter, and more scalable.
• Streamline local development environments by improving onboarding processes, automating toil, and accelerating environment setup to keep engineers productive and focused.
• Manage and optimize containerized infrastructure on Kubernetes and AWS using Terraform to improve reliability, reduce manual operational burden, and ensure scalable platform operations.
• Embed quality practices across engineering teams through influence and enablement rather than mandate, fostering a culture of ownership and shared responsibility for product quality.
• Evolve the engineering platform toward structured tooling such as policy-as-code for architectural standards, API contract testing, and spec validation, paced by team readiness and tooling maturity.
• Participate in on-call rotations to support critical platform and infrastructure issues, ensuring high availability and rapid response to production incidents.
• Build internal tooling and automation using Python, Go, or Ruby, with Ruby on Rails experience preferred due to Zipline’s primary application stack.
• Apply DORA metrics and developer experience frameworks to measure and improve engineering velocity, reliability, and team satisfaction.
• Maintain a pragmatic build-vs-buy mindset, prioritizing improvements to existing systems over unnecessary reinvention, and ensuring tooling delivers tangible productivity gains.
• Communicate effectively in a fully remote environment, earning buy-in by making platform tooling genuinely useful and intuitive for engineering teams across global time zones.
• Work with technologies including Ruby on Rails, Postgres, Redis, AWS, Heroku, GitHub, CircleCI, Docker, Kubernetes, Datadog, Sentry, Snyk, Semgrep, Slack, JIRA, Google Drive, and Claude Code.

🎯 Requirements

• 8+ years of engineering experience, with at least 5 years in DevEx, DevOps, or infrastructure with a strong developer productivity focus.
• Strong CI/CD pipeline experience (GitHub Actions, CircleCI, or equivalent) with a track record of building, maintaining, and improving pipelines for reliability and speed.
• Hands-on experience with AI-assisted developer tooling, including code review agents, test generation, or LLM-powered quality checks.
• Hands-on experience with Kubernetes, Docker, and AWS; comfortable managing containerized environments and cloud infrastructure via Terraform.
• Familiarity with SAST/SCA security scanning tools (Snyk, Semgrep, or equivalent) and integrating them into CI/CD pipelines.
• Strong understanding of observability tools (Datadog, Sentry, or equivalent), including setting up meaningful alerting and reducing noise.
