📋 Description
- • As a Senior Data Scientist at M-KOPA Holdings Limited, you will own the predictive models that determine loan eligibility and pricing across five African markets, directly shaping financial inclusion for millions of underserved customers who are accessing credit for the first time.
- • Your work will drive measurable impact by expanding access to formal lending, supporting income generation, and advancing environmental sustainability through carbon-negative operations, all while contributing to a mission recognized by TIME 100 and the Financial Times as a global leader in inclusive finance.
- • Day to day, you will build and refine credit scoring models that assess customer creditworthiness, default risk, and optimal loan pricing using Python, SQL, scikit-learn, pandas, and numpy.
- • You will develop and test machine learning models for loan eligibility and pricing optimization through rigorous A/B testing, statistical analysis, and continuous monitoring of repayment data across diverse markets.
- • You will engineer new features from rich repayment datasets, monitor model performance for risk shifts, and translate complex analytical outputs into actionable business strategies for commercial and product stakeholders.
- • You will collaborate cross-functionally with engineers, data scientists, growth managers, and commercial teams across the UK, Europe, and Africa to deploy models into production and scale impact.
- • You will operate in a low-ego, high-ownership environment where innovation, analytical rigour, and market understanding are valued equally, empowering you to prioritize solutions that balance growth with responsible risk management.
- • You will contribute to a team that has already served over 7 million customers, processed over $2 billion in credit, and avoided 2.1 million tonnes of CO₂ emissions, gaining deep expertise in fintech, credit risk, and inclusive financial systems.

🎯 Requirements
- • Proven experience building predictive models, particularly in credit scoring, risk modeling, or similar classification/regression problems with real-world impact.
- • Strong proficiency in Python, SQL, and core ML libraries including scikit-learn, pandas, and numpy, with hands-on experience in feature engineering, model selection, hyperparameter tuning, and deployment.
- • Demonstrated ability to translate complex model outputs into clear, actionable business strategies and effectively communicate insights to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
