- • Design, implement, and operate backend and full-stack systems that incorporate LLMs, tools, and agents as core components of a healthcare AI platform.
- • Build agentic workflows — multi-step, tool-using, stateful systems — that solve real product and operational problems in chronic disease management.
- • Integrate LLMs safely and reliably into production systems with rigorous attention to observability, cost efficiency, and failure mode mitigation.
- • Use modern AI coding tools (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot) as a force multiplier to accelerate development, refactoring, and exploration.
- • Establish and enforce engineering patterns and standards for AI-assisted development across the team to maintain quality and clarity.
- • Collaborate closely with Product, Design, and engineering stakeholders to shape technical solutions, not just execute specs — contribute to roadmap discussions with a systems and platform perspective.
- • Translate high-level product goals into technical architecture and execution plans for AI-native systems.
- • Design APIs, services, and data models with a backend-leaning focus, ensuring scalability, reliability, security, and privacy in a regulated healthcare environment.
- • Operate and monitor systems in production, responding to real-world behavior and improving system resilience.
- • Enhance developer experience and internal tooling to unlock team leverage and streamline AI-integrated workflows.
- • Work in a fast-paced startup environment with a small, flexible team to build a brand-new product from the ground up.
- • Ensure all systems comply with healthcare regulations and prioritize patient safety, data privacy, and regulatory compliance.
- • Contribute to a mission-driven culture focused on improving accessibility and affordability of care for individuals with obesity, diabetes, hypertension, and dyslipidemia.
- • Engage with a globally distributed team with physical offices in San Diego, California, and Vienna, Austria, while operating in a fully remote-first culture.
- • Iterate rapidly based on real-world feedback, shipping solutions without waiting for perfect specifications.
- • View AI as a foundational abstraction layer in software development, not a temporary trend or gimmick.
🎯 Requirements
- • 7+ years of experience as a Software Engineer with strong knowledge of AWS, Java, and TypeScript
- • Strong experience building with LLMs in production environments, not just prototypes
- • Clear enthusiasm for AI and agentic systems and their application in software development
- • Strong system design skills and comfort working in ambiguous, undefined problem spaces
- • Ability to communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
