Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • Own the full lifecycle of product features that touch every corner of the Ben platform—from the moment an HR admin sets up a new benefit to the instant an employee receives cashback in their bank account. You will scope, architect, build, test, ship, and iterate on code that is used by hundreds of thousands of people.
- • Design and evolve a resilient, secure, and scalable system that orchestrates complex payroll integrations, multi-step approval workflows, real-time notifications, and third-party provider APIs. Every change you make is a node in a larger graph, so you’ll think in systems: upstream dependencies, downstream effects, edge cases, and international compliance nuances.
- • Partner shoulder-to-shoulder with Product Managers who bring market insight and with Designers who obsess over pixel-perfect UX. You will challenge assumptions, surface technical trade-offs early, and translate fuzzy requirements into crisp engineering tasks that the whole team can rally around.
- • Champion the developer experience. You’ll improve CI/CD pipelines, write internal tooling, codify best practices, and leave every repo cleaner than you found it. Your pull-request descriptions will be mini-blueprints that future engineers thank you for.
- • Make pragmatic architectural decisions that balance speed today with scale tomorrow. Whether you’re choosing between a new microservice or extending an existing module, you’ll document the “why” so the next engineer (maybe you!) can reason about it in six months.
- • Instrument everything. You’ll add observability, alerting, and graceful degradation so that when we 10× our user base, the only thing that grows is our impact—not our on-call anxiety.
- • Keep security front-of-mind. You’ll apply OWASP guidelines, AWS Well-Architected principles, and privacy-by-design patterns so that trust is baked into every endpoint, webhook, and database column.
- • Contribute to the roadmap. Your voice matters in quarterly planning: you’ll size epics, identify technical debt that’s slowing us down, and pitch innovative solutions that unlock new business value.
- • Mentor and be mentored. You’ll pair with mid-level engineers to level them up, while learning from staff-level peers about distributed systems, event sourcing, or whatever the next hard problem looks like.
- • Celebrate outcomes, not output. When a feature you shipped reduces HR admin time by 40 % or increases employee benefit adoption by 25 %, you’ll share the story in our weekly demo so the whole company feels the win.
🎯 Requirements
- • 5+ years of professional experience building and shipping modern web applications end-to-end, including both frontend (React/TypeScript) and backend (Python or similar) code in production.
- • Proven ability to own features from discovery through post-launch monitoring, evidenced by concrete examples of technical design docs, rollout plans, and measurable impact on user or business metrics.
- • Strong grasp of distributed systems concepts—data modeling, API design, asynchronous workflows, and scalability trade-offs—gained while working on B2B SaaS or similarly complex domains.
- • Comfortable working autonomously in a remote-first, fast-paced environment; you communicate clearly in written and verbal English and can make decisions amid ambiguity.
- • Nice-to-have: prior experience building fintech, HR-tech, or benefits platforms; familiarity with Temporal for durable workflow execution; knowledge of enterprise-grade security and compliance standards (SOC 2, GDPR, HIPAA).
🏖️ Benefits
- • Competitive base salary plus meaningful equity so you literally own what you build.
- • £100 monthly “Ben Balance” to spend on whatever fuels you—Netflix, gym, artisan coffee; increases £50 each year until it caps at £250.
- • £1,000 work-from-home allowance for the perfect desk setup and £1,000 annual learning budget for conferences, courses, or coaching.
- • 28 days holiday plus bank holidays, option to buy/sell 5 additional days, rising to 30 days after three years; comprehensive mental-health support and tailored professional coaching.
