  • • Senior Litigation Attorney specializing in Workers' Compensation at ICW Group Insurance Companies, a role critical to managing complex legal matters that protect the company, its insureds, and stakeholders through expert litigation strategy and case resolution in California and federal jurisdictions.
  • • Handles the full lifecycle of workers’ compensation litigation, including investigation, discovery, depositions, site inspections, court hearings, trials, and settlement negotiations, ensuring timely and effective case disposition with minimal supervision while adhering to California Rules of Professional Conduct.
  • • Represents ICW Group and its related entities before state and federal courts, administrative boards, the Court of Appeal, and the California Supreme Court, providing authoritative legal advocacy in high-stakes workers’ compensation matters.
  • • Analyzes complex legal and factual issues, conducts in-depth legal research, and independently develops and presents defense strategies, while advising claims personnel and clients on optimal courses of action based on evolving legislation, regulations, and case law.
  • • Provides strategic legal advice to claims and internal clients, delivering clear, cost-effective recommendations and ongoing quality assessments to support timely resolution of claims and litigation exposure.
  • • Directs and mentors legal support staff, including paralegals and assistants, by assigning tasks, reviewing legal documents, ensuring timely filings, and fostering a culture of quality service delivery through coaching and mentorship.
  • • Builds and maintains strong internal and external client relationships with a customer-centric focus, communicating legal advice clearly and effectively to claims professionals, management, mediators, arbitrators, judges, and juries.
  • • Stays current on new legislation, regulations, and court decisions, analyzing their impact and distributing insights to relevant teams to ensure proactive legal compliance and risk mitigation.
  • • Assists in premium audit disputes, subpoena responses, and third-party discovery matters, applying legal expertise to protect ICW Group’s interests across ancillary legal proceedings.
  • • Demonstrates expert time management and organizational skills, managing a moderate-exposure caseload independently while prioritizing tasks, delegating appropriately, and maintaining high productivity under minimal supervision.
  • • Utilizes proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), Adobe, and proprietary legal applications to manage case documentation, perform legal analysis, and present findings professionally.
  • • Applies analytical reasoning to combine facts and legal principles, forming sound conclusions, defining legal issues, gathering evidence, and implementing strategic resolutions aligned with business objectives.

🎯 Requirements

  • • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and active, in-good-standing license with the State Bar of California, with no history of public or private disciplinary action.
  • • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university.
  • • Minimum 5 to 8 years of direct workers’ compensation litigation experience in California, including trial and appellate experience.
  • • Proven ability to litigate workers’ compensation cases before state and federal courts, administrative boards, and judicial forums, including depositions, motions practice, and settlement negotiations.
  • • Strong legal research, analytical, and writing skills, with experience interpreting medical records, legal documents, and technical materials.
  • • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of presenting complex legal concepts clearly to diverse audiences including judges, juries, clients, and internal stakeholders.
