  • • The Senior Payroll Associate at Deel is a critical individual contributor responsible for owning end-to-end payroll processing activities while mentoring junior team members, ensuring accurate, compliant, and timely payroll delivery for employees across Italy and supporting Deel’s mission to power global work through seamless, scalable HR and payroll infrastructure.
  • • This role directly impacts the financial well-being and trust of Deel’s global workforce by guaranteeing precision in compensation, adherence to complex Italian payroll regulations, and continuous improvement of payroll operations in a fast-growing, innovative SaaS environment.
  • • Oversee the end-to-end processing of payroll data for employees in Italy, including salary calculations, tax withholdings, social security contributions, and statutory deductions, ensuring 100% accuracy and timeliness in every pay cycle.
  • • Maintain and audit employee master data in the Zucchetti payroll system and HRIS, validating changes related to new hires, terminations, promotions, leave, and benefits to ensure data integrity and compliance with Italian labor laws.
  • • Verify and reconcile payroll inputs such as hours worked, overtime, bonuses, commissions, and deductions against source documents and timekeeping systems, resolving discrepancies promptly and documenting audit trails.
  • • Assist with the preparation, calculation, and filing of Italian payroll taxes and social security contributions (INPS, INAIL, IRPEF), coordinating with finance and legal teams to meet statutory deadlines and avoid penalties.
  • • Serve as the primary point of contact for employee payroll inquiries, providing clear, empathetic, and timely responses to questions about payslips, tax codes, deductions, and payment timing, escalating complex issues as needed.
  • • Ensure ongoing compliance with evolving Italian payroll legislation, collective bargaining agreements (CCNL), and regional regulations by monitoring updates, interpreting changes, and implementing necessary adjustments to processes and systems.
  • • Lead the design, testing, and rollout of new payroll processes, system enhancements, or automation initiatives within Zucchetti, collaborating with IT, product, and operations teams to improve efficiency and reduce manual effort.
  • • Mentor and guide junior payroll associates through onboarding, training, and day-to-day support, fostering a culture of accuracy, accountability, and continuous learning within the payroll team.
  • • Contribute to process improvement initiatives by identifying inefficiencies, proposing solutions, and participating in cross-functional projects to standardize and scale payroll operations globally.
  • • Stay current on Deel’s global payroll platform capabilities and provide localized Italian insights to help shape product development and ensure the platform meets local compliance needs.

  • • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, or a related field from an accredited institution
  • • 3–5 years of hands-on experience in Italian payroll processing, including proficiency with the Zucchetti payroll system
  • • Strong knowledge of Italian payroll laws, regulations, tax obligations (INPS, INAIL, IRPEF), and collective bargaining agreements (CCNL)
  • • Proven ability to lead, mentor, and support junior team members in a payroll or HR operations environment
  • • Excellent attention to detail, analytical skills, and commitment to data accuracy and compliance
