Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • Lead the development and optimization of cutting-edge metallization processes for advanced semiconductor applications, driving innovation in ALD, CVD, and PVD technologies that enable next-generation logic and memory devices.
- • Design, execute, and analyze complex experiments on 200 mm and 300 mm wafer platforms, translating fundamental materials science into robust, high-volume manufacturing solutions that meet stringent purity, resistivity, and step-coverage targets.
- • Collaborate cross-functionally with equipment, integration, and product teams across ASM’s global R&D centers (Leuven, Phoenix, Tama, and Singapore) to define process roadmaps, troubleshoot yield excursions, and accelerate time-to-market for new metallization chemistries.
- • Own the full lifecycle of process development—from initial feasibility studies through pilot-line qualification—by establishing design-of-experiments (DOE), statistical process control (SPC), and failure-mode analysis (FMEA) frameworks that ensure repeatability and scalability.
- • Mentor junior engineers and technicians, fostering a culture of technical excellence, safety, and continuous improvement while transferring best practices to customer sites worldwide.
- • Interface directly with leading semiconductor manufacturers to understand evolving metallization challenges (e.g., cobalt, ruthenium, molybdenum, and tungsten fill for sub-3 nm nodes) and translate customer requirements into actionable R&D programs.
- • Develop and maintain detailed process documentation, including standard operating procedures, process specifications, and intellectual-property disclosures, ensuring compliance with ISO 9001 and IATF 16949 quality standards.
- • Leverage advanced metrology and characterization techniques (XPS, SIMS, TEM, SEM, XRR, and in-situ spectroscopic ellipsometry) to correlate film properties with electrical performance, enabling data-driven process optimization and root-cause analysis.
- • Drive cost-of-ownership (CoO) reduction initiatives by optimizing precursor utilization, chamber throughput, and maintenance cycles, delivering measurable value to both internal stakeholders and external customers.
- • Present technical findings at international conferences, publish in peer-reviewed journals, and contribute to ASM’s patent portfolio, reinforcing the company’s position as a thought leader in advanced metallization.
- • Champion environmental, health, and safety (EHS) protocols within the lab and pilot production areas, ensuring all activities align with ASM’s zero-incident culture and global regulatory requirements.
🎯 Requirements
- • Master’s or PhD in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field with 8+ years of hands-on experience in semiconductor metallization process development.
- • Proven expertise in ALD, CVD, or PVD thin-film deposition techniques on 200 mm/300 mm wafers, including deep knowledge of precursor chemistry, surface reactions, and reactor design.
- • Demonstrated ability to design and execute statistically rigorous DOEs, analyze large datasets (JMP, Python, or MATLAB), and implement SPC methodologies in a high-volume manufacturing environment.
- • Strong understanding of advanced metrology and failure-analysis techniques for thin metal films, with a track record of correlating physical properties to electrical device performance.
- • Excellent English communication skills—both written and verbal—with experience presenting complex technical content to global, cross-functional teams and external customers.
🏖️ Benefits
- • Flexible remote-first work arrangement with quarterly travel to the Leuven R&D hub, enabling a healthy work-life balance while staying connected to cutting-edge lab facilities.
- • Competitive compensation package including performance-based bonus, stock options, and full relocation assistance for candidates wishing to relocate to Belgium.
- • Comprehensive benefits: private medical and dental coverage for you and dependents, pension plan, 30 days annual leave, and paid volunteer days.
- • Annual personal development budget of €5,000 for conferences, courses, and certifications, plus dedicated time for research publications and patent filings.
