Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • Own the end-to-end design, development, and optimization of KBRA’s flagship financial-analytics data platform, serving thousands of daily queries from credit-rating analysts, portfolio managers, and external clients.
- • Architect and maintain resilient, low-latency data pipelines that ingest, validate, and enrich billions of rows of structured and unstructured market, fundamental, and alternative data from 50+ global sources (Bloomberg, Refinitiv, S&P, SEC filings, loan-level tapes, ESG feeds, satellite imagery, news sentiment, etc.).
- • Write clean, idiomatic, test-driven Python (3.10+) code using modern tooling—asyncio, pandas, polars, pydantic, FastAPI, Airflow, Dagster, Great Expectations, dbt, pytest, tox, pre-commit, and mypy—to guarantee deterministic, reproducible, and auditable data transformations.
- • Design and evolve a cloud-native lakehouse on AWS (S3, Glue, EMR, Lambda, Step Functions, Redshift Spectrum, Athena) with Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform, CDK) that scales horizontally and keeps compute costs predictable while meeting sub-second SLAs for interactive dashboards.
- • Partner with quant-research, credit-analytics, and ESG teams to translate complex business logic into reusable data products—e.g., cash-flow waterfalls, transition matrices, PD/LGD models, climate-risk scenarios—delivered as versioned Python packages and REST/GraphQL micro-services.
- • Implement rigorous data-quality frameworks that surface anomalies in real time, trigger automated remediation workflows, and provide full lineage provenance required for regulatory audits (SEC, ESMA, PRA).
- • Champion DevOps and MLOps best practices: containerization (Docker), CI/CD (GitHub Actions), blue-green deployments, feature stores, model registries, and observability (Datadog, CloudWatch, Prometheus, Grafana).
- • Lead code reviews and pair-programming sessions, mentoring junior engineers and fostering a culture of continuous learning, psychological safety, and blameless post-mortems.
- • Collaborate with InfoSec to enforce encryption in transit & at rest, role-based access control, secret management (AWS KMS, Vault), and vulnerability scanning across the data stack.
- • Drive the migration of legacy on-prem Spark jobs to a modern, cost-efficient serverless architecture, cutting annual cloud spend by 30% while improving job reliability from 92% to 99.9%.
- • Contribute to open-source projects (pandas, Airflow, dbt) and represent KBRA at PyData, PyCon, and local meetups, elevating our engineering brand and attracting top-tier talent.
- • Translate regulatory changes (Basel III, IFRS 9, CECL, SFDR) into technical requirements, ensuring our data models remain compliant and future-proof.
- • Build self-service analytics portals (Streamlit, Dash, Superset) that empower non-technical analysts to explore curated datasets without writing SQL.
- • Establish SLAs, SLOs, and error budgets; use statistical process control to detect drift and alert stakeholders before downstream models degrade.
- • Create comprehensive documentation (ADR, runbooks, API specs) and deliver brown-bag sessions to demystify the data platform for cross-functional partners.
🎯 Requirements
- • 6+ years of production-grade Python engineering, including async, type-hinted codebases and packaging (setuptools, poetry).
- • Expert-level SQL (PostgreSQL, Redshift, Snowflake) and hands-on experience with columnar formats (Parquet, ORC) and lakehouse architectures (Iceberg, Delta, Hudi).
- • Proven track record designing event-driven ETL/ELT pipelines at petabyte scale on AWS or GCP with Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform, CloudFormation, CDK).
- • Deep understanding of data-modeling patterns (star, snowflake, data vault) and performance tuning (partitioning, clustering, vectorized execution).
- • Nice-to-have: master’s in CS, Math, or quantitative finance; experience with credit-risk models, fixed-income analytics, or regulatory reporting; contributions to open-source data engineering projects.
🏖️ Benefits
- • Fully remote-first culture with quarterly team off-sites in global hubs (NYC, London, Singapore) and a $2,000 annual travel stipend.
- • Competitive base salary ($180k–$220k) plus 20% performance bonus and equity in KBRA Holdings, LLC.
- • Comprehensive health, dental, vision, and mental-wellness coverage for you and dependents—100% employer-paid premiums.
- • 25 days PTO, 12 company holidays, and a 4-week paid sabbatical every 4 years to recharge and pursue personal projects.
