Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • Establish AeroVect's reliability engineering practice from the ground up, defining processes, metrics, and tooling to track and improve fleet reliability across mechanical, electrical, and embedded systems from design through field deployment.
- • Lead failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA), fault tree analysis (FTA), and reliability block diagram (RBD) activities across complex electromechanical systems to identify and mitigate potential failure modes.
- • Define and track key reliability metrics including mean time between failures (MTBF), mean time to repair (MTTR), and field failure rates, and build dashboards to provide engineering and leadership with real-time visibility into fleet health.
- • Analyze field failure data from deployed autonomous tractors to determine root causes, prioritize corrective actions, and ensure closed-loop feedback between operational performance and design improvements.
- • Design, manage, and oversee external reliability and environmental testing programs, including accelerated life testing, vibration and shock testing, thermal cycling, and ingress protection validation, working directly with third-party test labs to execute and interpret results.
- • Partner with hardware and systems engineers during early design phases to conduct reliability-focused design reviews, provide design for reliability (DFR) input, and flag risks before production.
- • Develop and maintain formal reliability requirements for new hardware programs and vehicle platforms, ensuring traceability from system-level requirements to component-level specifications.
- • Support supplier qualification by defining reliability acceptance criteria, reviewing vendor test data, and evaluating qualification reports to ensure components meet durability standards for 24/7 airport operations.
- • Build and maintain comprehensive reliability documentation including test plans, analysis reports, reliability growth tracking records, and lessons-learned databases to institutionalize knowledge and improve future designs.
- • Communicate technical findings effectively to both engineering teams and non-technical stakeholders, including leadership and customers, translating complex reliability data into actionable insights.
- • Serve as the sole reliability practitioner at AeroVect, autonomously prioritizing initiatives and building a scalable reliability program without an existing framework or team.
- • Travel occasionally to Atlanta (ATL) to support field operations, observe real-world fleet performance, and oversee on-site testing activities.
- • Collaborate closely with field engineering, systems engineering, and hardware teams to align reliability goals with operational needs and deployment timelines.
- • Translate aviation and ground handling operational environments into specific reliability constraints and performance targets for autonomous tractor systems.
- • Ensure all reliability activities comply with industry standards and contribute to the safety-critical nature of autonomous equipment operating in high-stakes airport environments.
🎯 Requirements
- • 5–8 years of hands-on reliability engineering experience in a hardware-centric industry such as automotive, aerospace, robotics, industrial equipment, or defense.
- • Deep expertise in reliability analysis methods including FMEA, FTA, and RBD, with direct experience leading these analyses on complex electromechanical systems.
- • Experience defining and managing environmental and accelerated life testing programs, including writing test plans and interpreting results from third-party labs.
- • Ability to work across mechanical, electrical, and embedded systems domains — understanding failure modes in each and how they interact at the system level.
- • Comfort working as the sole reliability practitioner at a company, with the ability to prioritize and build a program incrementally rather than inheriting an established one.
- • Strong data analysis skills and experience working with field failure data to drive engineering decisions.
🏖️ Benefits
- • Opportunity to lead and build AeroVect’s first reliability engineering practice at a Series A company transforming aviation ground handling.
- • Work with cutting-edge autonomous tractor technology deployed in real-world 24/7 airport environments alongside major global airlines and ground service providers.
- • Collaborate with top-tier venture-backed aviation and autonomy teams with high-impact, mission-critical product outcomes.
- • Occasional travel to Atlanta (ATL) to support field operations and testing.
