- • Design, develop, and maintain scalable data pipelines and backend systems that power Zensurance’s digital insurance platform, ensuring high availability and performance for commercial insurance customers.
- • Collaborate with product managers, data analysts, and insurance domain experts to translate business requirements into robust technical solutions for data ingestion, transformation, and delivery.
- • Build and optimize data models and ETL processes that integrate structured and unstructured data from multiple internal and third-party sources, including policy systems, claims databases, and external risk datasets.
- • Implement and enforce data quality standards, monitoring tools, and alerting mechanisms to detect anomalies, inconsistencies, and latency issues in real-time data flows.
- • Lead the architecture and deployment of data storage solutions using cloud-native technologies, primarily on AWS, with a focus on cost-efficiency, security, and scalability.
- • Contribute to the evolution of the company’s data governance framework by defining metadata standards, lineage tracking, and access control policies aligned with regulatory and compliance requirements.
- • Partner with frontend and mobile teams to expose clean, well-documented APIs and data services that enable seamless user experiences across web and mobile applications.
- • Mentor junior developers and conduct code reviews to promote best practices in software engineering, data architecture, and test-driven development.
- • Participate in agile ceremonies including sprint planning, stand-ups, and retrospectives, with a focus on iterative delivery and continuous improvement of data infrastructure.
- • Proactively identify technical debt and propose refactoring strategies to improve system reliability, maintainability, and developer velocity.
- • Stay current with emerging trends in InsurTech, data engineering, and cloud platforms, and evaluate new tools or frameworks that can enhance Zensurance’s data capabilities.
- • Document technical designs, data schemas, and operational procedures to ensure knowledge sharing and onboarding efficiency across engineering teams.
- • Support incident response and root cause analysis for production data system outages, ensuring minimal disruption to customer-facing services.
- • Work in a remote-first environment with team members across Canada, coordinating across time zones to deliver high-impact features on schedule.
🎯 Requirements
- • 5+ years of professional software development experience with a focus on data engineering or backend systems
- • Proficiency in Python and/or Java for building data pipelines and backend services
- • Hands-on experience with AWS services such as S3, Redshift, Glue, Lambda, and Kinesis
- • Experience designing and maintaining relational and NoSQL databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MongoDB)
- • Strong understanding of ETL/ELT processes, data warehousing, and data modeling techniques
- • Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code tools like Terraform or CloudFormation
