📋 Description

• Senior Software Engineer role at Katapult Labs, Inc., a stealth-stage legal technology company applying AI to plaintiff-side litigation at institutional scale, focused on building infrastructure that doesn't yet exist in the legal industry.
• The role requires a Founding Builder to work across the full stack with a backend-first mindset, owning architecture end-to-end, designing systems around AI (including LLM orchestration, agentic workflows, and MCP integrations), and collaborating closely with a product-leaning counterpart.
• Day-to-day responsibilities include designing and shipping production-grade systems, operating with high autonomy and low ego, communicating precisely, flagging blockers early, and building systems where precision matters due to real-world consequences in regulated domains.
• The team operates in a small, deliberate, high-stakes engineering culture where engineers think in systems, not features, and are expected to own complex platforms without hand-holding in a domain where wrong outputs have serious implications.
• The company is building the foundation for how law is practiced end-to-end, having raised a seed round that was 75% oversubscribed in February 2026, and is defining the future of legal technology through AI-driven infrastructure.
• The person in this role will learn to build AI-native systems at scale, work in high-precision regulated environments, and gain ownership in an early-stage, well-funded startup with meaningful equity (0.20%–0.99%).

🎯 Requirements

• Software engineering depth with a backend-first instinct and experience owning complex platforms and products end-to-end without hand-holding.
• AI-native by default: experience designing systems with and for AI, including building with LLMs in production as infrastructure, not just as a feature.
• Proven ability to operate at high autonomy, low maintenance, low ego, with precise communication, early blocker flagging, and shipping in fast-moving environments.
• Prior exposure to domains where precision matters: legal, compliance, healthcare, or fintech, with understanding of the consequences of wrong outputs in regulated contexts.
• Fluency in English and Spanish (bilingual requirement).
• Must be based in New York or Miami (or exceptional candidates in other locations considered) and able to commit to 3 nights on-site in Miami or NYC every month (85% remote role).
