- • Join 8th Light as a Senior Software Engineer and become the technical catalyst that turns ambitious product visions into resilient, production-grade software used by millions. You will own end-to-end delivery on high-stakes consulting engagements—from discovery workshops with Fortune-500 stakeholders to deploying green-field systems that scale to 10× traffic overnight.
- • Architect and build elegant, maintainable solutions in polyglot environments. On any given week you may craft a Python micro-service that ingests real-time IoT data, refactor a legacy Java monolith into a reactive Scala stack, or stand up a React/TypeScript front-end that delights users and passes WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility audits.
- • Champion test-driven development and clean-code practices that set the bar for the entire team. You will pair-program daily, conduct rigorous code reviews, and mentor junior engineers through structured kata sessions, raising collective craftsmanship while shipping features every sprint.
- • Leverage cutting-edge AI-assistive tooling (Copilot, ChatGPT plugins, LLM-based test generators) to accelerate scaffolding, automate refactoring, and generate living documentation—freeing you to focus on creative problem-solving and strategic design decisions.
- • Collaborate shoulder-to-shoulder with product strategists, UX researchers, and data scientists to translate fuzzy business requirements into precise technical stories. Your ability to ask the right questions and surface hidden constraints will directly influence product roadmaps and client ROI.
- • Lead discovery phases that uncover user pain points, map system boundaries, and define measurable success metrics. You will facilitate event-storming workshops, create C4 diagrams, and build rapid prototypes that validate assumptions before a single line of production code is written.
- • Ensure operational excellence by embedding observability from day one. You will instrument services with OpenTelemetry, define SLIs/SLOs, and configure CI/CD pipelines that deploy to Kubernetes on AWS, GCP, or Azure with zero-downtime blue-green releases.
- • Drive continuous improvement through blameless post-mortems, performance tuning, and cost-optimization initiatives. Your dashboards will surface actionable insights that reduce latency by 40 % and cut cloud spend by six figures annually.
- • Contribute to 8th Light’s open-source ethos by publishing reusable libraries, writing technical blog posts, and speaking at meetups or conferences. Your thought leadership will amplify our brand and attract the next generation of craftspeople.
- • Thrive in a fully remote, trust-based culture that prizes curiosity and candor. You will join daily virtual stand-ups, quarterly in-person retreats in Chicago, and global guilds dedicated to everything from functional programming to ethical AI.
🎯 Requirements
- • 4+ years of professional software development with demonstrated success in client-facing or consulting environments
- • Production-level proficiency in at least two of: Python, Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, React, Ruby, Scala, Go, or SQL
- • Demonstrated experience using AI-assistive development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, LLM-based refactoring) to accelerate delivery
- • Track record of building high-quality, maintainable software using TDD, clean code, and incremental delivery practices
- • Comfortable leading technical discovery, facilitating workshops, and translating business requirements into actionable engineering tasks
